Stellarvue bino same as burgess???
      #542161 - 08/02/05 03:07 PM

Are these two the same? They look almost exactly alike.

I ordered burgess binos from High point scientific folks almost two months ago and still have not received it. I noticed opt had stellarvue in stock at same price so I was thinking about getting it instead of burgess binos.

I noticed the stellarvue binos come with two 23mm fmc wide field with 50 deg fov. 50 sure doesn't sound wide.

Fred

Without wanting to open the can of worms - again...

They are "similar" in structure, however both manufacturers assert they have different inner components.

PLEASE guys, let's not start the debate again!

Fred,

Not sure about the differences/similarties in those particular models, but here is what I kept in mind when I was making a simliar decision. Make sure the Clear Aperture is 22mm and not 18mm - I found alot of great deals when I was shopping - but many of them were of the 18mm family and not good for my purposes.

You might also check and see if the prisms are BAK7 or BAK4 - (I think BAK7 is better in Binoviewers - just the opposite from Binoculars),

-Jeremy

BTW, I ended up finding a good deal on some used Denks - so I canceled my order at High Point - It was only a month into the wait... Good Luck...

From the Stellarvue website:

Here is a high quality binoviewer with 22mm clear aperture, BAK-4 prisms and individual diopter focusing for under $200

if you can afford, go for denk. but if you just for some fresh experience trial, burguess and stellarvue will be fine for some.
I had the BV1 before and now with denk and will not look back again

A Binoviewer purchase is a personal choice, there is NO right or wrong, there are just differences. Some folks like Fords, some, Chevy's and some VWs. Doesn't make any of them better or the person making the choices any smarter.

As with most astronomical equipment, you get what you pay for, and you must make the decision of price/value for yourself.

Objective, empirical data on the various specifications of binoviewers is welcome. Let's all just play nice here...

Thanks!

I wonder if/when Vic's going to come out with a corrector for the SV105 and SV4? I know there was some talk about it in the yahoo group months back when he announced the binoviewer.

I believe Vic is coming out with his own corrector some time in fall. For a while Astromart had the Siebert corrector advertised with the SV binoviewers. I purchased my corrector directly from Siebert Optics. A base model corrector is $79. I paid more for my 1.3x OCA but it is universal model and works well with any binoviewer that I have tried it with.
