I got a new little friend. I've been meaning to get an 8" dob for a while and a friend had this second-hand Dark Star 8" f/6 for sale. Dark Star was run by a guy in Wales who made basic Dobsonians for a number of years in the 1980s and 90s but has since ceased trading, they're basic box-and-tube designs but well-made.

I'll use this scope for those nights where it's not worth getting the 18" out - grab-and-go short sessions (and it is grab-and-go, it's surprisingly lightweight and I can pick the whole lot up in one go) and sucker-hole sessions, plus observing trips to the southern coastal road, which has an excellent view to the south over the sea; I can't take the 18" on those trips.

The 8" is seen here in the 'observashed', with my 18" in collapsed form under the silver cover and another 8" which is an f/4 and which I'll be selling at some point (I rarely use it, because it's a PITA to keep collimated, because the secondary mirror moves around and the primary cell is horrendous, and I hate equatorial mounts...). No better photo yet because it was raining.

And here's my 18" set up before a recent observing session, but before I'd put the finder on and eyepiece in or removed the wheelbarrow handles...
