OK... I see Denkmeiers in my future...
How many of you are using the Standards? Denk IIs?
I'm trying to make a decision between the two. I have researched it all that I want (or need) to...
I'll be using them in a 33 cm truss Dob and a 150 mm Mak-Cass. The 2" Newt package gives me what I need to work in both scopes. I also want the SCDs. So, if I figure correctly the Denk IIs will cost about $300 more than the Standards. Hmmm... that could be some oculars... decisions, decisions.
Comments?  Suggestions?  Opinions?

I have the Standards with the SCTs - and in my C11, I've never run into vignetting, or for that matter, any limitations. Binoviewing has become a whole new ballgame, and for me, I can't ever go back.
However, I still use my 27mm and longer EPs in cyclopian mode, but with the StarSweeper, I get about the same magnification with my dual EPs (5, 12, 18, and 21).
So far, IMHO, the Standards are plenty adequate for the viewing I do.

Hello, Peter;
I debated the two versions before deciding on the Standards with the self-centering diopters. Perhaps in Arizona your observing conditions are so good that you could detect the difference that a slightly higher light transmission and other qualities of the Denk II offer, but I know that here in the Pacific Northwest, we rarely enjoy such conditions. So I decided I'd do just fine with the Standards, and then use some of the $$$ saved to buy the 2-inch SCT package. I have no regrets at all. The Denk Standard is an excellent binoviewer. Next year there will be a Denk III I expect. It's not unlike cars, audio-visual equipment, computers and so on. There will always be a new model, an upgrade, more bells and whistles.
Hope this helps.

Hi Peter,
I have owned the Standards for a year and a half and would sell my first-born before these. I hope to get the II's down the road someday, because the difference's that I've seen through them would be worth the extra $300 to me. The difference in coatings shows in both Solar and Astronomical. Although subtle, noticable. The Standards are no slouch, I bet you would be happy with either. I intend to be happy with both.

Peter,
Just buy these:

And sell the SR part. That's a great price ($900). If I were ready to take the plunge for the Denk II's they would have a sold sign on them already.

Hi Peter:
Well, why not do your own side by side comparison? Then, you won't have any doubts about whatever decision you make.
All we need is some cooperative weather

I know you can arrange the binos... how about the clear skies?
