I occasionally read the contributions to this forum with interest.
I was wondering , have any members any opinions about Bang and Olufsun audio equipment ?
I noticed one of their latest offerings , Beolab 5 costs around £10,000 for a pair of speakers !
How good is this gear compared with the other high -end stuff you guys pontificate about from time to time ?
Regards , Kenny

Hey Kenny
Who cares how it sounds, B&O gear looks luuuuuuuuuurvely. Built by Danes too.
Sorry for the disruption, normal audiophile service can now be resumed

Ian,
Thanks for your interest.
Frankly , given the enthusiasm of some members on THIS forum , I'm a little surprised yours was the only response in over 3 days.
Regards, Kenny

Well, the stuff is beautiful, and the Beolab 9000 (9000?) linear tracker turntable was quite an achievement at the time, but sometimes the sound from their speakers was compromised for the sake of style.
Not so, apparently the Beolab 5 speakers you mentioned, which got quite a rave review in Stereophile...
I really wanted that linear tracker at one time...

Don't listen to me, but I'd give B&O 9+ for style and about 5 to 6 for output quality...but I'm an old pfart, and my hearing's nothing to brag about....

B&O is priced higher then many moderate "high end" manufacturers, (such as Sim Audio, Classe, Bel Canto, Primare)...and sounds about as good as Pioneer, Sony, etc etc. Its acheivement is "design", but music reproduction is about the "sound". And personally, I don't think it really looks as good a Halcro, Mark Levinson, Tag McLaren, or other high end premium brands. B & O's market appeal and drive is much like Bose..."lifestyle systems", not MUSICAL systems! (Bose: "no highs, no lows, it must be Bose")

Did you say one hundred and twenty thousand for a pair of speakers?? For that kind of jack I could pay the original artists to play the music in person! And I thought astronomers were fanatical about their equipment! Sheesh...

LOL....yeah.you probably could hire them for one night! But with the spe4akers..you get to hear them over and over again as IF they were there and only have to pay 1 time! Now that I have pointed out this financial benefit..makes you want to run right out and get some, huh? LOL
THey are certainly not the most expensive out there either! To develop the Evidence Loudspeaker line, Dynaudio was not thrilled to desgin them with any product available on the market, so as a Corporate undertaking, the developed their own Mono Amps and Pre-Amps. When the public got wind about the manufacturer of these products, the demand for them went crazy. By demand, the made 40 units. Each channel sold for $375,000/ch...Pre-amps, same price. It just never ceases to amaze me how much money so many people seem to have! (shakes head and walks away sadly, Walkman strapped to belt and little earplug for speaker)

ITs amazing that no matter what hobby one gets into, the amount of money that could be spent is ENDLESS...and what is more amazing, is the number of people that have it to spend! "contentment" is a state of being that no manufacturer ever wants the consumer to find. WHy be happy with that SCT when OGS has a better optical solution for you? Ya mean ya really listen to music thru THOSE things when these await your listening pleasure? Makes you want to never leave the cave and be victimized by such temptations!

Well, in all fairness, it just makes me want to win the lottery. A big lottery!

Kenny, For style the B&Os are great but everyone knows that the Norwegians kick fanny when it comes to sound (+ great style). I'm married to a Norwegian and love my Tandbergs (3001a,3002a,3006a and 3015a)! Bob Peterson

I've seen a pair of the Dynaudio's that are collasal at a Seattle Definitive Audio... Holy cow they're huge! Must be 90" tall! You know, there's something about a high end audio store, might sound weird, but new speakers smell better than a new car... Honestly, I had more fun going to an audio store than I did when I went to marine world for the last time. If anyone plans on going there, just go to Bonfante gardens instead. Much more rewarding! BTW, if anyone here lives in the seattle area, I really recommend you visit Definitive. They're great at selling good equipment. Nothing in there looks good and sounds bad.
