I am trying to research the NexStar 130SLT but not coming up with much information. I read a review of the 130GT (by David? Can’t find it again and forgot to bookmark it) on this website but would like to know if the SLT is an improvement or if it went the other way due to “cost cutting measures.
Does anyone own one? Does anyone know where I can find a quality review of one?

Hi Smokeman,
The SLT series has not shipped yet. I do have some information based on conversations with the engineers - see the SLT section in Odds and Ends at my web site (http://www.nexstarsite.com/OddsEnds.htm#SLT). The first article is basic info about the SLT series.

Michael,
I can't tell, but is the fork arm going to be higher, to allow the scope to reach closer to zenith?
All the other changes are quite welcome over the original Nexstar! Especially the battery compartment. And any improvement in tracking would be welcome.
Smokeman, I'd still recommend getting a Powertank or similar portable battery. I'm sure the SLT will eat through like candy, just like the GT models did!

Hi Mark,
I can't really tell and it isn't something that has come up in my discussions with Celestron. But, I intend to have an SLT about as soon as humanly possible, so hopefully I will be able to post some definitive info soon.
I agree that AA batteries, despite the battery compartment, won't really be the way to power these scopes. Battery life is still likely to be about 4 hours so a rechargeable gel-cell or lead-acid battery is still the way to go.

Just received the 130SLT yesterday but of course no first light due to cloud cover last night and more tonight!
It is very light and quite portable. I think the scope itself weighs 18lbs.
I don`t care for the red dot finder. May have to change that later.
Waiting for clear skies.
This is my first reflector scope so stanby for future collimation questions

How do you like your 130 SLT? What sorts of things have you been observing?
