So the replacement RCX came today, along with the clouds. I had the original one for a few days before sending it back, but never really noticed the size. Well. I did today! This thing is HUGE!!! I can't imagine how big the 12 or 14's must be! Here are a few pictures of the 10" RCX next to the 8" LX90. All I can say is, "Oh, my aching back"!

Good show Luke. You will be rolling soon.
I had mine out tonight. Just put it on the Ultra Wedge. I set it up on M33 and hooked up the SBIG-STV autoguider. It tracks so well it scared me. I think it's tracking a lot better than my CGE and the CGE is very good. (Well, the transients on the PE graph or smaller but there may be a scaling factor involved.)
I found out tonight a Walmart jump start battery won't last very long when you cut on the dew heater. Ended my session early when it quit tracking.

They are huge, but worth it. My 12" is a monster.
FWIW, I drilled an extra hole in my Milburn wedge, for the big center bolt, since the scope is (i) so much heavier than the LX200, and (ii) has much longer fork arms, increasing the leverage. I never liked the fact that the entire scope really is held on by the top bolt; with the much larger center bolt also in there, I feel that the scope is much more securely held in.

Hello Webfoot. I just mounted mine on the Meade "Ultra" wedge yesterday and gave it a shot last night. It's a solid wedge and well engineered. Takes a lot of effort to turn the azimuth adjustment and the handles come off. Other than that it seems very solid. The RCX seems to track very well on the wedge. Do you have any PE figures yet?

I did a few PE runs on PEMPro a couple of months ago. It seems that the gears hadn't had enough work to even be "periodic" yet. Unfortunately, it's been raining now for about 8 weeks, and I haven't had the scope out for a long time. Since it rains here pretty steadily until June, I'm not sure when it'll be out again.

That is a bummer.
I spent a lot of time in Bothell doing software development work for a medical mfg. over the last few years. Very nice area but it does rain on occasion. I like the funny coffee they have on every street corner (Lat-Tees or something like that) and how everyone in the area has a 7 digit yearly income.
We would be glad to make sure your RCX is in good shape until June. That 12" one is looking better and better as I play with the 10" one.

Yeah, everyone but me with that 7-digit income. Only here can I feel poor; it's amazing how much money there is around here!
Just as I think that the 10" LX200 is the sweet spot for the LX200 Classic mount/optics, I suspect that we'll find that that is true also for the 12" RCX400. It's almost portable, and it's a wonderful telescope (I still play with it in the garage, but that'll probably do me until June; if the skies ever clear in the winter here, they're not steady, so I would image with the little Tak).

I think I'll drill out the center bolt on the wedge. And whats the deal with these handles? I mean, come on! Wheres the R&D here? I think they're more in the way than a help.

Makes that LX-90 look like a cute little scope. Sort of like what my LX-90 did to my ETX when I first got the LX-90.
Sure does look good on that "table" mount. How are the views?
Later, Mark

It was pretty funny--I was demonstrating the use of, and imaging with, my RCX400 at an expo put on by Anacortes (my very favorite toy store). There was a newly-minted Meade VP there, who helped me set my stuff up. He grabbed the handles on his side, and noted that they were worse than useless, since your fingers get pinched by the OTA on one side. He did acknowledge that that was not good.
I replaced the two which pinch fingers with the handles from ScopeStuff. They're much better.
