SS Cyg is a very nice cataclismic variable to observe. Not only for photometry, but also for visual observation. It is UGem type star with its average period 49,5 days. It was discovered in 1896 by Louisa D. Wells. More about the star is on AAVSO pages: SS Cyg
And below is how was it visible in my eyes during the last outburst:

I'm planning to add SS Cyg to my program of variable stars. It's relative brightness should be very easy to track by CCD. All I need is a bit of co-operation from the weather. It's been mostly cloudy for the past two weeks.

And now we have next outburst of SS Cyg, let's keep an eye on it! SS Cyg should be visible tonight even with 10x50 binoculars somewhere around 8-9 mag.

That's perfect timing, we won't see any stars around here until Friday at the earliest.

Caught SS Cyg last night, 23.15 UT 07-07-2005.
It was at about 8.7, just slightly fainter than the 8.5 mag star in the triangle.
(On June 30, it was below mag 11.4)

Thanks for the update on SS Cygni. Since August 2nd, our NJ evening skies have been very hazy or totally clouded over with little relief in sight over the next week.

SS Cyg is my favorite next to U Gem. Cool starfield too.
