Well, it's Go/No-Go decision time for me. The weather report at TSP2006 looks iffy but the clear sky clock doesn't look too bad. I have a tent-camping reservation from tomorrow (Thursday) thru Sunday and I'm trying to decide whether to head out from Austin early tomorrow morning.
I've really been enjoying the pictures & reports of the esprit de corps, but I'm not certain how the observing is really going. So for folks that are out there now, does the weather look like it's improving? Is the night-time observing pretty good or hazy? Mostly cloudy with sucker holes only or mostly open skies with just a few clouds?
I just hate to leave the wife, kiddos, and my work if the observing is only going to be so-so. Having a tough time deciding whether to pack tonite!

Even if there ends up being little in the way of viewing, you'd get to see some spectacular equipment up close (maybe get a chance to see something through a few) and meet some interesting characters.

Go for it. I nearly bailed out of a star party last year because the forcast looked miserable. Just when I was going to retreat the weather changed dramatically for the better.
One thing about the weather: you never really know what will happen much more than an hour into the future.

Group Cloudy Nights photo at the Fort Davis Drugstore.
From front left going clockwise - Unknown Astronomer (Mike), Snorkler (Darrell), Alvin, Bic Parker (David M), Jake47 (Jim), John Fitzgerald and wife Luella, Star Angel (Steph), Cygnus_X1 (Faith). Dean is at another table, but you can see him between Jake47 and John Fitzgerald. Starman (Roger Taylor) met us at the Prude Ranch registration, but didn't join us for milkshakes. Apologies for not capturing what you all really want to see. Steph leaned forward so Faith is blocking your view of her angel wings.

Tuesday night it didn't rain, but the clouds were thick enough there was no viewing. They cleared for 10-15 minutes at a time where we could see UMA, Coma, and other objects near zenith. Then they would thicken up again.
I had about 10 people for Tuesday's scheduled bird walk, but about 20 for this morning's post-cloud-out impromptu bird walk. There were 110 for my well-received bird talk Tuesday night. About 410 had registered at TSP as of Tuesday night.
Zapped, Weather looks iffy for the next two nights here, but Friday and Saturday are supposed to be pretty good. If nothing else, you'll meet some interesting people as stated. Here's Bic (Dave) with his weather station watch. It records millibar pressure readings for 9 hours and displays a graph of them, and it has an anemometer built-in to capture wind velocity.

Well, I didn't use that exact term, but I did specifically give her greetings from you and waved with both hands...kinda like this...

She said hello back.

No storms at all, just clouds. Tomorrow afternoon and evening may be stormy though, if current forecasts hold up, although right now it's only showing about a 30% chance over the period.

Darrell, why did you post pics of my camera you silly boy??
And boy do I look mad in that photo and I have no idea why, I didn't even know he was taking it!
Darrell's birding talk last night was excellent! I've heard an unsubstantiated rumor that they may even start an official birding observing pin program at TSP next year similar to the star observing pin programs, based on a list to be developed by Darrell. Way to go, Darrell!

Of course Steph didn't know I was taking her photo. She was so worn out from the togas and lamp shades scene last night, that she didn't notice I'd photographed her Freudian manipulations of her camera lens
Why, she's sitting right next to me, and she's gonna be more than a little upset when she reads this post. Good thing she's not a moderator in this forum. And my defense is that I didn't touch her camera. I was too busy recording history in the making
