I have a Bogen/Monfrotto 3033 mount that I will use. I used it with the Hercules single arm mount to hold a SV Nighthawk and it did very well. I fully expect the 3033 to work without issue...it just needs to be weighed down by hanging a weight from the center column. It is sturdy.

Justin, I hope to have it out but I need to get home first! This weekend is the Portland Jazz festival so I don't think I'll be using it until later in the weekend!

Received the mount on Friday and seems solid on the Bogen 3033. I am having an issue on the altitude motion and getting it tight enough to hold the scope still. I am about out of thread and it is getting pretty hard to turn the knob any further and it is still too loose for my liking. I'll take it out tonight for a first light.

Hey Tom,
How'd the new mount work?
Did you fix the Alt tension?

David, I am sending it back to Raul to fix it. I never got it to tighten up to an adequate level and Raul told me that he has a fix for it. I need to return it and let him do it. As tight as I could get it, when I removed an EP, the balance would be off enough to allow it to move freely. I have certainly not given up on this mount, far from it, but do realize that it is gear for a smaller, lighter OTA that is under 10 pounds.

I don't blame you. I prefer this mount over the Hercules but would like it to be beefier and capable of holding a TV102. This mount will be great for an 80mm refractor.

David. I have tried to put a 9 pound scope on my Hercule single arm and seems to work fine.

I have been following this thread for a while since I am interested in one of the Desert Sky mounts. I see that Tom L didn't think that the mount would support 2 scopes. How about the other owners of the mount? Can you give a report on mounting 2 scopes?

PS Does anybody have an email address for the company?

many thanks,
merk

Any more feedback on this mount?

I am very very tempted but so far the feedback is limited (I realise it is a new offering).

Thanks.

It does support two scopes... I have one on order and it should ship this week. Raul was great to work with and he has helped me configure it so it will hold my new WO ZS80 and my Coronado PST side by side.

His email is: desertskyastro@cox.net

I will let you know ... mine is suppose to ship either today or tomorrow. I was looking at the ez touch mount that William Optics released but for nearly $375+ without a tripod I thought I would take a shot on one and put it on a oberworks wood tripd (which looks very much like the same tripod that WO is selling... I don't know if it is). This mount with mounting plates for my WO ZS80 & Coronado PST was $275.00. The ez touch would have cost like another 100.00 more for their combo plate to mount the second scope.

Thanks all for the email address,

I have tried emailing Raul several times over the past three weeks to order the mount. As of today I haven't received a response.

That's strange! I got a response within about 12 hours!

It's possible his spam filter is getting your emails for some reason.

Do you have a different account you could use?

Good luck.

Can someone explain the different mounting options?

I currently have the AZ3 which I will remove the head from and mount the 'Raul' on but I am considering a Bogen camera mount when i can find one secondhand.

What is the surveyor mount that is mentioned in Rauls advert?

Sorry to sound dumb but I've been a dob man for the last 6 months

Hi Morris

The different threaded mounting options referred are for a 5/8"x11 post (typical on most surveyors tripods) and 3/8" x16 post (usually found on camera tripods) So you must specify which female thread you want on the mount when you order.

These are 2 examples of a surveyors type tripod.

http://www.helix-mfg.com/hercules.htm

I've used the AZ-3 with the head removed to mount my Unistar Light. I used a 3/8x16 eye bolt and washer to secure the mount head to the AZ-3 hub.
