Thanks Jim. That does show a difference. Something I've been wanting to see.

The in camera noise reduction is far better than taking dark frames and subtracting in Photoshop as it does not produce 'holes'.

Photoshop is not a good place to calibrate images (its inaccurate, slow, labour intensive ...). You need software that is optimised for calibration like the MaxIm stuff or Images Plus etc. Latest IP has some very smart dark frame calibration that allows you to use temperatue mismatched archive master darks

It more efficient to measure the temperature and archive master darks fo later use. In camera dark reduction doubles the time to capture images and does not deal with the random noise component. Compare that to say a 25 frame averaged archive master dark with only 1/5 the random noise content that didn't waste any imaging time

Jim - thanks for the comparison images. The increased red response is very noticeable - and beautiful too!

Ben - still battling it out on eBay for that used 300D!

Tonk - IP 2.75 landed on the doormat yesterday. Crikey!

IP 2.75? D'oh, now i'll have to upgrade ... only just got 2.5

Good luck with the 300D, and the mod - i'm still trying to decide how brave I feel
