I am keen to hear from anyone who has used these instruments. Do they perform acceptably? Are they lacking brightness? Pentax make the FB in 6-12x, 7x,8x,9x and 10x. Minolta have the UC in 6x and 8x while Canon make the 7x. These are the binos with oblong eyepieces and objectives giving an oblong image with an aspect ratio of about 16:9. They are the same size as a pack of 20 cigarettes and very portable. All opinions and experiences of these binos will be gratefully received.

Ceejay,
Unfortunately I can't help you with this question as I've never tried any of these , not even for 10 seconds.
But your mention of the oblong lenses does remind me about a question I was intending to put to another forum a long time ago.
I was wondering why it is that TV screens , cameras and camcorders all seem to be of rectangular shape as opposed to circular , and why is it that binoculars and telescopes always have circular lenses ( your example excepted of course) ?
Any comments anyone ?
Regards , Kenny.

Ceejay, a couple years ago I was on a pocket bino quest and I looked through both Minolta and Canon examples of these flat binos. I don't even remember which configurations. But suffice it to say that they made so little impression on me that I not only didn't buy them, but only vaguely remember them. I seem to remember that the pupil spacing on one or both of them was disturbing to me for some reason, but I can't recall whether it was too narrow or too large or what. I just rember putting them back on the counter pretty quickly. I'd definitely suggest trying before you buy. These things aren't for everybody.
