Saturn Sketch 2.28.06
      #845903 - 02/27/06 11:16 PM Attachment (93 downloads)

Hi,

Sky conditions finally cooperated enough to make a sketched observation of Saturn. I had observed Jupiter but seeing conditions were not good enough to sketch it.

I used my 6" refractor.

The SPR show a clearing. The SEB had its usual irregular appearance. The shadow line of the rings, (northward), is not as dark as it was in previous observations and nearly merged with the NPR. The NPR showing a uniform tone.

A and B ring details were of the usual kind with a rather interesting pattern of ringlets on the preceding side of the B ring.

Limb darkening on the following side was obvious.

Most of the sketch was done with a 4H pencil with some of the darkest areas done with a 2B pencil. Blending was done with my finger.

Best,

Sol, that is so incredibly beautiful! Every time I see your sketches I'm astonished by the complex yet subtle features you routinely render, such as the swirls and clumpiness in the SEB and the gossamer semi transparency of the Crepe. Absolutely wonderful sketch!

Sol,

A very beautiful and delicate observation of Saturn showing much detail. The South Equatorial Belt (SEB) and the South Polar Region (SPR) appear as I have noted them as well. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Carlos

Thanks for the complimentary words. The weather here has been pretty bad for observing so I was glad to get out.

Best,

Great work on the mottling in SEB and the details in the B ring, Sol. Another beautifully detailed sketch!

Excellent as usual, Sol! I particularly love the way you rendered the rings. What great detail work!
