I tried a 10-36x60 bino the other day...well, the zoom was horrible not sure of the brand i belive it was a no name bino..but non the less it wasnt good. I own the 15x70 skymasters and im very very happy with them. im considering moving up to a 20x80, probably the oberwerks. they are in my price range. I was glad to try a zoom bino for free, they are temping with thier "high" power but not good viewing at all. Shawn

>>> wow, zoom binos really are bad...<<<
Hi Shawn:
You would be surprised at the good advice given on CN that is not considered good advice until someone experiences it for themselves. That is why each winter, all across America, dozens of little boys get their tongues stuck to flagpoles, telephone poles, car fenders and the like; they just have to experience it themselves--counsel from adults not being good enough.
But, that trend as gone on for thousands of years, and I see no signs of it changing. More than ten years ago, I created a flier on the lunacy of zoom binoculars--it is posted somewhere on CN--and have written several posts on the subject. Yet, for most, the efforts have been useless.
Have a great weekend, and be thankful you didn't buy it.
Bill
P.S. Also, as they say: "hindsight is 20 / 20." So, beware of learning about binos. 'Cause if you do, you will say things about ZOOM binos, as I have about ZOOM binos and CHEAP binos, that will cause some people to look at your comments as nothing more than you being some arrogant elitist. Been there; done that; got the t-shirt.

Those Duovid zooms are nice.
Well.. they're kind of zooms. Sort of.. Maybe?

Aside from being Leicas--which is already saying a great deal--the Duovids are really variable power binos: designed to work at two precise powers, as I understand them. Click stop variable power bonoculars work much better than zooms. In my signature line I list my 7-12X40 Daylites that I received 40 years ago as a present. They are click stop variable power, not zoom, binoculars. Many years ago the click stop on one of the oculars at 9X stopped working, so 9X is no longer any good, but at each other power the binocular works just fine. It's the smooth zoom feature that wreaks havoc on binos.

Shawn,
I have to agree with you about zoom binos. Even my cat doesn't like them.

Even if they had great optics like the $2,395 Leica 10 + 15 x 50 Duovid I hate the narrow 52 deg or less AFOV .
