Hi, I would be interested in any comments from anyone who has tried the William Optics 8x42 APO that has a phase coating?

Yes, thanks, I had seen that review. That one is pre-addition of phase coatings, and includes in a later comment on addition of phase coating to address an apparant sharpness problem. Am wondering if it did. jay

My experience with this binocular is that on axis sharpness and brightness is relatively good for a binocular at this price point, even without phase coatings. The addition of PC should offer some improvement, but I doubt that it will produce a dramatic change. The real issue with the optics, as I see it, is edge performance. The image becomes surprisingly soft nearing the edge of the field and I have to say it is not at all what I expected of a triplet objective, although CA is well controlled. It is still a very compact, solidly made binocular and I find it useful for birding.
