I am in the midst of designing a fork mount too. The coupling for the DEC motor/drive has been a challenge.

When you get to that, please let us know what you do.

thanks

Ok ,i will post more pictures.
I would like to keep this tread going al the way until the mount is finished.
i think (hope it will be a good thing for in the future when other people also want to build a fork mount, because i feel there is not so much to find about it on the internet(or maybe i look in the wrong place )
Friday and saterday i will contineu machining the polar axis so i will make pore pictures then.
I still dont know exactly how i will make the dec.drive, because it depends on what motor drives i will use.
I have a Mel Bartels system ready for this mount buth i need to check it out first if it is not to much troubel to aling everytime i use the scope(i need to drive to a dark site).
If it is to dificult to aling i will use the synchr.motor that came whit the Byers gear, and then i will use a tngent arm for the dec.drive.
For the Mel Bartels system i will use a friction disc as a dec. drive if possibel.
If anybody know a good site about building a mount (specially fork mounts)please post it here.
Thanks.

eric

I wanted to get a G-11, but my first year of a new business is more expensive than planned, so I am adapting.

I found an old Antares tripod (huge hulking thing weighing 30 kG) with a HUGE equitorial wedge. I got the bright idea to build a fork and a cradle for the scope (8" Mak-Cass) and mount it that way unlit I can afford (or Make) something better.

I am going to use 1/8" wall thinkness extruded aluminum rectagular tubing 1 1/2" by 2 1/2". I will get I to a u-shape by cutting 4 45 degree wedges into it, bending it into shape in a jig to hold it and getting it welded. The only real problem with this method is I need to guess how much space between sides I have to add to compensate for the radius the remaining wall of the tube will at.

At for hooking it up to the wedge, I had thought of lazy susan bearing but want to come up with something more precise.

Eric - a lazy susan is basically a little turntable that sits on your dinner table. You put the food on, and you can spin it around to get what you want. Cunning or what?!
Just go onto google images and type 'lazy susan' and you will see what I mean

Eric,
Beautiful machine work!
I built an English fork mount that works very well, but, it doesn't look THAT nice.
Keep the pictures coming, and good luck with your mount.
