Rain...rain...& more rain
      #984119 - 06/03/06 08:33 PM

Mere words cannot describe how I feel inside. The rain here has been relentless. I think it stopped altogether here for around 10 min. today. It's just volley after volley of downpours. I really do think someone does not want me to have an observatory As you can see, I've changed the location on where I now live.

I have not left this forum altogether. I will still post updates to this thread once I have something to update. And I still want to watch the other projects started in this forum as they continue towards their finalization. I just won't discuss the Explora-dome here anymore. We now have places where that can be done. And I hold no hard feelings towards anyone here either.

Rick,
Whats the weather outlook for your weekend? Are you going to be able to get any work done? It must be frustrating not getting anything done

Look on the bright side (no pun intended); at least you can put your feet up and watch the footy.

It will stop raining eventually - honest!

Rick,

Any chance the rain will let up and let you get some work done Sunday?

Why you letting a bit of rain stop you? Get out there get wet and get dirty. Finish that thing you're not going to melt. Are you?

I won't be posting here too often, but thought I would post a picture of the observatory thus far for everyone that has followed this thread. Today I finished with the siding. I used 3/8" thick T-111 siding. I still need to add some trim boards to the corners, then everything will get stained, maybe a light gray or in white. I still need to build the door and some steps for entry. The walls seen here are 4' in height, and the aluminum mounting plate can just be seen on top of the concreate pier. Soon, I will begin building the wood sub-structure that will have polyethylene transition segments laid out over the top, and will also hold a 8' diameter plywood ring for roller wheels. Sometime next week, the "hat" which will top everything off and complete the observatory is due to depart from Minnestota. I'll post more in the future as things begin to finalize.

It looks awesome Rick, but can you please resize your image to not more than 800x600, per our Image Posting Guidelines ?

I can't wait to see this completed!

Sorry. I had kept it under the 100kb. maximum, but forgot about the 800x600 pixels maximum

Rick, how will you do the transition from a square structure to a round dome?

Hi Mark-

I'll be building something very similar, if not identical to what's seen below
