For the first time in over a week, I had clear skies. First I found comet Machholz. After spending a while observing it, I moved on to some doubles. First was 118 Tauri. At 97X, I described it: "Primary light blue, secondary orangish. Close, but nice." Then I took a look at 23 Orionis. Description: "Primary white, secondary intensely blue . . . nice separation and difference in magnitudes. Secondary not too dim though." Finally, I observed Epsilon Monocerotis at 48X. "Primary pale yellow. Secondary dimmer. The secondary appeared at first ruddy, but now consistantly slate. Better separation at 97X, colors the same."
I hope someone enjoys reading my descriptions. I'd be interested if anyone else has color descriptions of these doubles.

Thanks for that Ian. Out of the 3 I havnt seen 118 Tau. I like looking at doubles more than anything else in the night sky lately. You will find that different optics and position in the sky of the object will yield varying color descriptions from one person to the next.

Ian:
I would love to respond to your request for additional observations. Unfortunately, I'm not sure clear skies will visit icy Kansas City again!
I've saved off a list of your doubles and cross my fingers about possibly posting observations of them to this thread before Spring.

As a coincidence, I observed 118 Tauri and 23 Orionis last week with my ST80. The color contrast in 23 Orionis was quite striking. Using low power I had the pair aligned so they were just touching, which really brought out the rich blue color you described. Thanks for the report. Landrew
