Hi all,
in this night I made a comparative image of Sirius and Adhara with its companions... the seeing was fair and the Sirius B was very easy to see with 285x in my Newtonian 180mm. The scale is the same in both images, made at f/18. PS: Sirius B is the pale dot at upper left of Sirius.
regards, Fabio

Great pictures. I suppose they were near the zenith, which makes for better views than from the U.S.

Very nice, quality pictures especially considering it was with your F5.5 scope. Is it a manufactured name brand scope or a custom scope?? Thanks, Bonco

Thanks John! yes, here in the southeast of Brazil, Sirius pass practically in the zenith.
Thanks Bonco! my Newton was made by a brazilian ATM called Dario Pires; you can see more about your work in his website: http://www.techs.com.br/users/dariopires

Last night, I split Adhara at 375X in poor seeing with my 10-inch before the weather closed in. It looked very much like the photo, namely the companion being surprisingly faint next to the brilliant primary star.

My trusty RV6 provided a clean split and an "easy" view of Adhara on 13 Jan. Last night with less steady skies I couldn't split it with my 10 inch. Just goes to show how important it is to have steady air.

Yes, the seeing is an important factor into this. In annex follows another image of Adhara using a digital camera in afocal(single shot) with my Newt. 10".
Well, with the split Sirius concluded, my next personal challenge will be Beta Centaurii. In the last year I tried, visually, with my 10" without success... This year I will try with a webcam, maybe this can help.

Fabio

Congratulations on your very rare, I believe, photo of Sirius B. Are there other photos by amateurs? Next you will have the great comet by night. Plus, we're freezing to death up here in the dead of winter, snow piled up all over the place. I am starting to get mad at the southern hemisphere. Ron

Thanks Ron,
the separation of Sirius A and B are increasing and probably much more images will coming... in annex follows three other images that I made of it with my Newtonian 10".
Well, here we don't have snow but we have MUCH rain now in the summer(winter in the north)! now in January we had only one night, really, opened(when I made this comparative image)...

Fabio, So, the image is not "extremely rare", as I thought. There are plenty more, also made by you! The dust jacket on my copy of Paul Couteaus's book shows the only other earth-based photo that I have seen. I believe S&T magazine would be interested. You ought to apply to get into the monthly gallery. Ron

Fabio, I'm really enjoying your pictures. Your right the Sirius pair is opening, but you've already caught it. Whatever you're doing, your doing it right. How about a short description of your photo tehcniques. Thanks, Bonco

Last night, I spotted Adhara's companion again, this time with my 6-inch. Same bad seeing, but it was there even though I had to strain to see it.

Thanks all,
Ron, I will try to send the images!
Bonco, the technique is same one used for planetary astrophotography. I use one webcam Philips toucam Pro II(without your lenses) for the acquisition, making projection with barlow(3x in my case). The process is very simple... with the Toucam, I make a filming(.AVI) of the object and after this, I use Registax soft. for stacking the frames and to get the image. With the image formed, I use the photoshop(or any another editor of images) for the basics adjustment(contrast, brightness, sharp, etc). Well, that's it... If you need some more specific information, tell me.
Taras, congratulations for your observation of the Adhara's companion. This double is really nice!
regards, Fabio

Fabio, That's a start. The Toucam is being used very sucessfully by solar imagers too. Looks like one is in my future. Bonco

You're probably blessed with first rate optics in your 6-inch as I am.
