Zeta Orionis C an OD?
      #1381621 - 01/24/07 09:50 PM

Has it been confirmed that what has been regarded as "Zeta Orionis C" is actually an optical double?

James

According to Burnhams Celestial Handbook for Zeta Ori. "A third component, which is probably not a true physical member of the system, is a 10th magnitude object, 57.6" distant."

Hope this helps.

Yeah, my impression from what's on the Internet is that it's probably not really a part of the system, but it seems as though there's still nothing "conclusive".

I'm putting together a little database for my double splitting at low/medium power, so I guess I'll be putting an asterisk next to Zeta Orionis for now.
