John:

Thanks for asking! It has been 30 days since I last communicated with Barry. The glass was done and on it's way to the coaters. Then gets returned, fitted, tested and I would expect to hear in the not to distant future that it is ready to ship.

While I am unbelievably anxious, I prefer as much as possible to just wait for the phone call. Most of the scope is paid for and the cash for the balance is under the blotter on my desk.

One day soon He will tell me it is "up to his specs" and ready to ship.

Have you got an ETA on your 6"?

Can't wait to some pics when you get it. As for me, I'm not expecting a call until the end of the year, and that's okay. Mine's paid for, except for shipping. I feel the same way you do, it's worth the wait for a product like this.

Steve:

I hear yah loud & clear. Monday last week Barry told me that my lens was back from the coaters, checked out fine in auto collimation and is installed in his test bed tube awaiting star testing, weather permitting. And the weather has SUCKED since then. Final payment's been sent.

I asked that he just send it to me so I can install it this coming Saturday or Sunday. But Barry can be stubborn.

That was with a dummy weight to simulate the weight of the lens & cell. Here's a shot with the dew cap.

I was doin fine at the waiting thing. Then your pictures came along.......I really can't wait much longer.

Here is hoping the weather clears soon for more than one reason. I'm starting to rust.

To me an F/15 scope is long focus so here is my contribution to this thread. This 60mm scope cost me $20.00 at a second hand store and delivers virtually colorfree images. To me it has been my all-time most cost effective astro bargain.

My scope is sitting just like that....well..not on a tall pier like that..but pretty much like that..with weights bolted on the end. Waiting.

I think I have a bit longer wait then you two D&G boys.

I'm waiting on me....and I'm as slow as frozen pond water.

Good thing I have my killer 6"f/15 on its killer hydraulic pier to keep me distracted...and my eyes averted.

Rob(your scope is so beautiful)

Great shot..and very much required of a long focus refractor.

Thought I'd throw some pics together showing our two different focuser, spotter, and counter balance approaches.

Two very unique scopes. Cept.. mine is one inch smaller and 3 feet longer....

Can't wait till their both done.

Rob(I luv refractors)

I really, really like the Buck Rogers look you've got there with the flowing lines and out-riggers thrusters. A real space ship!

Great metal work.

You really get the *Buck Rogers* fealing when you fire up the elctric focuser. I figured I was against the mounting flex wall already...so I didn't want to have to touch the scope at all.

Notice how we both have straight threws for our main spotters. I kept the polished stainless...to keep to the theme. And all the bolts are stainless. Real space craft stuff.......

Starship theme...was my driving design motivator.

Its reaching into the stars optically...why not make it look like it could take off *INTO* those stars.

Keeping the theme...I made cresent moon counterbalance weights to give it a lunar connection. A destination.

I bet waiting for Berry is the toughest thing about your scope build.......

I know I feel like the dead end I'm stranded at is never ending.

MOre power to you..my friend.

It's a mystery.....

But if I was to guess......it would be because they've not enjoyed the views and the feeling you get when standing under one.

Steve,

When did you place your order? I ordered last January (an 8") and the thought occurred to me that me may do them in small batches. OTOH, I could have another six months ahead of me.

My newest, an 80mm f/15 based on a Carton lens. Speedy Metals aluminum tube and Meridian R&P focuser, a GSO 6x30 finder(for now), and built for me by Sheldon Faworski, a member of this fine site.
I've just finished the painting, and it will cure two more days before I put rings on it and try it out.

I spoke to Barry today and the lens is STILL awaiting weather for star testing. Other lenses are stacking up awaiting star testing as well and yours is probably one of them. Forcast at his place does not look good until at least Thursday of next week.

Barry was being stubborn again and resisting sending my lens on until he's done a star test. But he's starting to reconsider due to the weather but he's still hedging. Honestly, knowing Barry's quality of work, I can't imagine a lens flunking a star test when it's already passed interferometer, and double pass testing before coating then another double pass test after coating.

Perhaps you can try nudging him off the dime if you're so inclined.

Jeff
