Hi guys,
I was out of town for about a week so I wasn't able to comment on the article. The S&T issue came in the same day I left, so I took it with me.
The prism cut-off is due to a delibrate masking of the prism assembly with dark tape. It is not from misaligned prisms or the type of glass used. I sure that if the tape were to be removed, the exit pupil would be round. I recall that this was done to prevent some sort of reflection or glare.
We've known about this issue since the RA88 came out. At the eyepiece, it's not noticable. The only effect would be less effective aperture.
I'll post more tomorrow. I'll also get a chance to compare the picture to my RA88. When I read the article I felt that it was a fair and accurate account of the RA88's. If you look at my mini-review it agrees with the article in many ways. Not perfect, but very usable and reasonably priced.
Later,
Peter
