Your reported observations should keep us busy for quite a while. Thank you for your generous efforts.
A point you make is allowing the binocular to come to thermal equilibrium before use. For scopes and larger binoculars, this has always been MY rule of thumb. In fact, it's an absolute necessity for me. As you stated, when one considers all the glass, metals, and rubber materials in any optical instrument, well, I think this makes a statement.
