Scott has the right idea. Develop a shut down check list. I have one for each scope in my observatory. The check list will be different if you are going to use the equipment in the short term compared to closing the observatory for a long time.

Make it as detailed as you can and follow it. I learned this years ago when I was a student and responsible for closing down the main dome and it's 12 inch refractor and the smaller dome and its 4 inch Ross camera scope. The check list made sure the lowly undergraduate did not mess thimngs up. I still use the process today for my own modest set up. It also helps if you are letting others use your observatory and equipment.

The check list will be yours, you need to design it to meet your conditions and needs.
