I debated long and hard as to whether to post this one for the group to see. I have been in the market for a vintage Jaegers, Inc. 6-inch F/10 achromatic refractor, considered one of the finest moderate focal length instruments in existence. They are virtually impossible to find!
While browsing the Chautauqua, New York Craigslist, I happened to see a remarkable instrument for sale. FOR EDMUND SCIENTIFIC COLLECTORS, THERE IS ONE OF THE MISSING 8-INCH EQUATORIAL MOUNTINGS WITH PIER AND LEGS!!! The web address for the huge Jaegers/Edmund combination is found at:
http://chautauqua.craigslist.org/for/910287172.html (I am not the seller of the telescope.)
After owning Jaegers 6-inch F/5 and F/15 objective lenses, I have found none better in that aperture class. Of course, the F/10 version is considered by professional astronomers as the best all-around performer. Too bad it is across the country from me!
This one has been on A-M for months. If I HAD the money I would already have driven over to Tonawanda bought it. It would go nice with my 6" f/15 Jaegers.
Oh well, maybe next time. (Sigh)
