Re: Asking about the Biography of A. Jaegers

I have been saying for years that the 1960s/70s Unitron objectives were iffy at best It took me over fours years to find two 102 1200s that I would say are very very good to use in my 160 unitrons.I have one that is amazing and I am still not convinced it is not a Jaegers 102 F15 coated objective. John Pons even said it was close to perfect. John said there was no way it was a Uniturd!! LOL Thats what John calls them...I Even have a 1970 GREEN Lens Unitron and I hate to say it but I would give that lens a 7 out of 10. On the other hand the Unitron mounts are incredible fun to use and a joy to own. Having a greeat lens is an added bonus!!

I think 4" lenses and bigger do not come out of the old polishing factory as perfect objectives my experience with most of the 4" Unitron lenses is they are over corrected. Some by a little and some by alot. just a little and the star test is shot. Also guys that buy these are not alway going to go around bad mouthing the expesive lens they just bought!! I dont really care all the bad lenes I have purchased I have resold and I have been totaly honest about what I thought of the lens. But I guess a 5 or a 6 out of ten is better than a cracked or scratched lens??

John Pons is a very Carfull about saying anything good about anything that is not his. He said to me once Jaegers never made a bad lens, that is a quote. For John to say that is saying alot about Jaegers.
