The Fireworks Galaxy (Happy 4th of July)

I do not think I have ever posted here... but since I came across a comment... here goes:

http://www.caelumobservatory.com/gallery/n6946.shtml

This is NGC 6946, AKA the "Fireworks Galaxy." Have a good weekend and fun fourth of July.

Adam,

Just to see "Newbie" under your ID name is a real hoot!

As I said in the SBIG group - this truly is the best shot of this object I have seen. Given the great detail and contrast between the HII and blue regions of the galaxy, the even more impressive part of this image is that you have accentuated the galaxy and diminished any effect of the milky way's dust on the subject and entire field. That's a tall order for this galaxy. Just wonderful.

Nice, and I wouldn't expect any less from Adam Block. BUT, this is a DSLR forum.

Ah but I don't care - that image is too good to miss

But then this could be a subtle way of getting us DSLR die-hards seduced over to CCD imaging

Ah! Indeed! Sorry about that. I did not read the forum name correctly! My apologies. A proven noob I dare say.

This is what I would call a "reference image" of this object.. 24" RC and top of the line CCD.. I guess if I had $40 grand to drop on equipment I'd make shots like this too

Thanks for sharing even if it's not a DSLR image.

Not bad for a newbie. Can't wait to see this object by Canon Rebel.
