Hi! I shot this 07/02/09, and it is one of my first images of Jupiter. The seeing was not as bad as I thought it would be, considering that the planetīs altitude was low (about 12 degreees). The seeing became better the later it got, but then of course the sun spoiled the party! I didnīt bother to bring my 8" Newtonian because of the poor conditions, so I used my Vixen ED100SF on Celestron CG5GT mount. The camera used was my DBK with IR/UV blocking filter. That camera seem to be inferior to the monochrome version in terms of resolution, and it will be interresting to compare, when the seeing is not causing problems. I guess that the seeing will be slightly better when Jupiter gains yet a couple of degrees in altitude later this summer and the sun dont rise in the middle of the night! Anyway, Jupiter is a planet that is interresting to observe and image! I will try to catch a moon transit and the GRS next time! Kind regards/Roger! |

Roger, Is the DBK a color version ??? If so you might need to adjust the white balance sliders (red and blue). |

The color is a little off, but great detail. Keep them coming!! |

Hi! Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I know about the colour issues... As I have the DBK version, I canīt see any colours on the screen, while capturing in Y800 codec. I tried different settings on the white balance sliders like Freddy said, but with no dramatic differences in colour between the captures. As far as I know, the DBK uses the Bayer method, a ccd chip with RGB filtering built in the chip. Does anyone know, if this means that the camera splits the different colour channels into the image data or does it "blend" it into a final mix? If it splits the three colours, then I might adjust it in either Registax or Photoshop after capturing? I tried to lower the red and green, but it doesnīt give the result that I want. As I have produced some red and pink Saturns earlier with this combo; Vixen ED100, DBK21, TV 3X and T-S IR/UV filter, I guess Iīll have to seriously check out what goes wrong! Any suggestions are welcome! I also attach a picture where I have lowered the red and green. Kind regards/Roger! |

Roger, the DBK is a color camera (?) So I use codec BY8 and RGB24 setting, because I have no good image at Y800, really bad colors ! Adjust the white balance Red and White balance blue like some where, wait let me look at my settings.... Codec BY8 - RGB24 Debayer at BG white balance red around 35 Wgite balance blue around 64 Try that, you must have better results with that camera... |

Good Jupiter Roger. I played around with your image a bit and you got some nice detail there but your red channel is burned out so hard to do anything with it

Hi! Freddy, the DBK is a colur camera, same as the DFK but without any built in filters! Iīll try to use the other codec settings and see what results I get! I assumed that the other codecs wasnīt for this camera, as they recommend Y800 for the DBK at the Imaging sources forum. I think that the poor results also has to do with the seeing effects at this low altitude. Chris: Yes, that was better! I am also afraid that the red channel is heavily overexposed. I can also see another big issue! I came home to my computer and found that the picīs on that screen differ much from the screen that I used for the processing! The colours on my screen is much heavier and brighter! Thanks for the feedback, Iīll give it another try as soon as the weather allows! Meanwhile, Iīll try to reprocess the aviīs to see if I can get better results! Kind regards/Roger! |
