Hi all, Well the little Cosmic arrived today via USPS and I wanted to post a tease about my first small (< 80mm ) classic refractor. The box has quite an endorsement for the Cosmic with references to the Moon, nebulosity in Monoceros, the Crab in Taurus and the star cloud in Sagittarius. The box has seen better days and I hoped was not a preface for the shape of the scope. But more on that tomorrow! ![]() peace and clear ckies, |

If anyone is old enough to remember "The Night Stalker" series in the 70s then you may recognize my alias. And yes I have a lot of images of this scope but no night time first light. Last night I had hoped to point this scope at the Moon but rain and thunderstorms prevented it. And I have a few questions about the scope that I hope you can answer for me too. peace & clear skies, |

Hey Richard, as others here will quickly chime in, I'll just say that I was astonished at how good these little refractors really are. I recently obtained a very nice 66TE, but quickly ran into trouble that left me bitterly disappointed. Luckily, it ended up being a simple flipped crown element. As I mentioned, once corrected, the 50 has no trouble rendering sharp detail on Saturn, and easily split Izar. Folks speak highly of these things for a reason. (I almost jumped in on that 6TE, but thought maybe it went a bit too high. I'm glad now I didn't so you can enjoy one). Here's my 66TE: |

Oh, and you wanna talk about tattered boxes? Take a look at how my 66TE box arrived. Picture also gives a size comparison with the 10TE. I've since "shored it up" a bit: |

Quote: Hi Darrell, Ouch! that box has seen its better days. Makes me feel better about mine. I did receive all the paperwork with the scope including a cute (wife's words not mine) info tag. I'll post images of all shortly. I think we all need to sing in unison Rain Rain go away for North Florida! so I can first light this scope! ![]() I thought I paid too much but was really tired of losing out on several 60mm scope lately. So I went all in. Now that I've seen your 66TE I want one too. peace & clear skies, |

Rich H Did you get the book (owners manual, sort of a dark blue cover) that origionally came with the scope? Rich (RLTYS) |

Hi Rich, Yes I did. I had looked for a copy while I waited on the scope to arrive but couldn't find one. I thought I would make a PDF of it and share. You need one? Image of all the paper work:
Image of the sales tag (I have two of them)
I did get a chance to first light last night details following soon with pictures. peace & clear skies, |

Hey Richard, Nice complete set of literature! Rarely do all survive. I have all with my 10TE, but the rest of the Tasco herd have bits and pieces. I could assemble another complete "set" of docs, but probably will leave things as they came. Oh, and I have two of the tags. One with my 9TE-5 and one with the 12TE-5. (They are kinda "cute"). Congratulations - and we're looking forward to more pictures. It sure looks well-preserved. |

I loved the way, instead of copying a number down from a company phone book, he'd just rip the page out of it and take it with him! ![]() Hope you get your first light soon. The Moon, Venus and Jupiter are great targets now.

Quote: Rich Would love a pdf file of the telescope manual (Worlds Beyond). I'll PM my e-mail address to you. Just realized that I had, and still have, the same Lunar Map. A neighbor gave it to me when I first got my Tasco 6TE-5 for Christmas of 1967. Thanks and Clear Skies. Rich (RLTYS) |
