SE mount?

Is the mount used for the 4se the same for the 5,6 and 8se. Is it possible to buy just the telescope, such as 6se, and use the same mount the 4se uses, or are the motors weaker.

Re: SE mount?

4 & 5 are the same mount, 6 & 8 is bigger, more robust & also has extra clearance for the longer tube. Small OTA on large mount would be OK but the reverse....?

Re: SE mount?

Hi and a warm welcome to the Nexstar forum. The 4se and the 5se share the same mount. The 6se and the 8se share the same mount which is sturdier than the one used by the 4 and 5.
The mount for the 4 and 5 will take the 6se, indeed some 4 and 5se owners have up graded to the 6se and placed it on their 4 or 5se mounts. I don't think it would support the 8se however.
I am sure other, more experienced members will be along soon to advise you further. Hope this is of some help to you.

Peter.

Re: SE mount?

Thanks guys for the advise and yes this is my first post here. I have an nexstar 4se and it is great! I'll just have to upgrade in the future and use the 4se as my grab and go. I photographed saturn and the moon the other night with just the t-adapter and my 50d canon. The moon is wonderful and saturn turned out like it should.

Re: SE mount?

If you want to upgrade in aperture I would suggest upgrading the mount. Any interest in DSO imaging? Take a look at a GEM. What size of tube do you plan on upgrading to?
