Finally

Well after waiting almost 2 years I recieved my TEC 160FL Friday,
serial #15. The scope came in very well packaged and appears to be in
good shape. The scope itself looks beautiful, fit and finish are very nice. I also got the Baader 8x50 finder scope from TEC which has
an illuminated cross hair with a double circle target, if anyone has
this finder scope can they please tell me how many degrees the outer
circle is or where I can find out, I talked to Yuri about this and he
told me to count how many full moons it is across, but I'll have to
wait another month for that to happen.

I did get a chance to do a first light on Sat. for about 2 hours.
The transperencey was excellent, but the seeing was poor to below
average, in my neck of the woods that's the case 80% of the time.
Jupiter was just boiling, but DSO were ok especially globular
clusters, I was able to see individual stars all the way to the core
on M13 and M92 and the veil nebula really popped out without a
filter, the scope seems to have alot of potential, but more observing
will be required (it's a tough chore but someone has to do it). One
pleasant surprise was the Baader finder, it's the first finder that I
have found to work with no hassle, alignment was super easy, and the
illuminated crosshair with circle target was a joy to use. More to
come.

Re: Finally

Thank's for all the congrats. This Sat. I'm going to my clubs starparty, many members are itching to look thru the scope, and 1 member will bring his brand new AP160 so we'll do a shoot out and compare the 2 scopes. Hope to have a report a pics by next week.

Hi Jake,

I have it mounted on a DM6 with G11 tripod base, when I want to track I then use the G11 mount.

It's not the lense alignment, it's the oil between the lenses, it's about a quart too low

Re: Finally

A beautiful scope. It seems that more than a few people after a lifetime of trying out every scope under the sun, seem to settle in on a 6" premium APO - so there has to be a good reason for that!

A comparison with the AP offering would definitely be of interest, although I hardly think one could go wrong with either choice!

Re: Finally

Well I did get one pic. of the the TEC 160FL this past Sat. at my club's star party I'll try to get more as soon as I can. I did have the shoot out with my friend's AP160, and I must say under the below average seeing conditions, it was basically a tie. Lots of detail on Jupiter, and colored stars had rich hues of color and really popped out in their star fields.
