If people decide to not support or use the free service we provide to hobbyists, manufacturers, and curious people, but instead choose to pay for the services Astromart provides then I should no longer sell their product or continue to support their efforts? All that does is hurt the hobby on a whole. In the current economy people have to make choices as to where their dollars go, just as you mentioned in your post. Obviously you are free to make your own decision, but the vendor has to make their own decision as well. There is only so much support that can go around. We try to do as much as we possibly can, but we can't always be in two places at once. For example, you had Nebraska, Golden State, and Table Mountain all at the exact same time. I don't know how you would make a choice, but I assume you would make a choice on attendance and participation. I would hate to think if I had to make a choice of which star party to attend that my business would be hurt if I choose the wrong one due to the wish of a group to make a profit and have an even better show. I wish everyone the best in making their club show as awesome as they can. I wish each show would draw 1000-2000 new people so the hobby can grow and still be around in 20 years. If some new blood doesn't start coming in telescopes will go the way of the Model Railroad. I remember when it use to be a come-one, come-all hobby. Now it just appears to be getting more and more exclusive. Large events like this are becoming more essential if we want to keep looking up. NEAF has been running for decades and this hasn't been a problem, so I am a little surprised this is one now. I see one vendor in your equipment list that is not going to PATS, but is going to Tuscon. I just believe there is room for everyone to share their knowledge and promote the hobby. I guess it is a no-win situation at times. If you look me up in your system I buy from you. My last purchase was AstroDon LRGB filters. I'm not against Arizona having a show. What I see here is timing and attempt to hurt PATS with a for profit event. There are already several vendors that don't attend west coast shows, and I understand that. What I'm against is a losing support for a non profit event because a vendor can't afford to attend 3 shows all 2 weeks apart. I actually think what Astronomics does for the community is great, that's why I try to make sure and spread some of my business to you. It is almost 7 weeks apart. We choose to go to it as it is closer to us. I know the date was picked so vendors would have time to recoup costs if they wanted to go to both. We are having an issue getting some of the folks at our open house due to the date, but we were handcuffed by an OU bye week. Maybe next year we will have a booth at both. You never know. TAAA doesn't have data. I'd think it would be neat if we could work on getting our act together for a small non-public star party in conjuction with this (yes, this is overlapping my other post). TAAA is really good at general public outreach but I know they also do smaller events. But this event comes with what should be some of the best skies of the year.
