Shoot, even a Denny's would be good if we could get a room off the side. But we'd need more people to justify it.

Just to brain storm, we could get a meeting room at one of hotels we're staying at and order in pizza. Perhaps the LaQuinta breakfast room could be had cheap.

Is anyone staying at the DoubleTree? That could be a relatively easy place to do something like that.

I was going to until I reviewed the cost per night.

Ouch- well, the area where you're staying is chock full of restaurants. I'm just not sure what sounds appealing to folks. The Texas Roadhouse has good steaks, but man is it loud. There are lots of reasonably priced options. Knowing how many people to expect would help.

Quiet is good, so WE can make all the noise. If the company is good the food just needs to be reasonable and edible.

Having had a chance to think on it, I have my strongest recommendation for where I'd want to be taking people:

The Lotus Garden:

http://www.lotusgarden.com/

We've gone there for years. It's a nice, quiet restaurant, and spouse/ family friendly. The food is prepared to order, so if want a change, you get it, including brown rice. The price are quite reasonable, and service includes hot tea as you sit down. If we can give them a little notice, it should be good to go.

I eat just about any style of food. I think, as Ron has pointed out, the concern is for a restaurant that can accommodate a meeting style dinner. If there's an area in the restaurant that can handle of bunch of stargazing hooligans then I'm all in.

I'll ask how they want to do that.

So, I talked to them about what happens with 15 people. It's not enough to block off one side of the restaurant, but they can put tables together. If it's lunch, it'd be $8.75/ plate. If dinner, they do a version of their family meal with appetizer through end of meal for $25/ plate, or if we had some other price in mind, they'll suggest menus based on what we wanted to pay. From what I have seen there, the $25 would be a lot of food.

It's hard to plan with no real idea how many people this really would be.

The hotels would give us rooms pretty readily, but that won't be cheap.

$25 seems steep (I can be cheap) and probably too much food for me. Maybe if we just show up and order off the menu?

I like the idea of ordering off the menu. I eat just about anything, but a set menu can be off putting to some.

The most I've ever paid there is about $12/ plate. I am honestly concerned about what would be showing up at $25.

If it's like 10 of us, then we'd just order off the menu.

Much more reasonable. I certainly don't need any more food.

The thing I'm not clear on is if we are going to transition to a banquet at some point. We had about 50% show up last time, so right now, we could just get a table for 4 and be surprised if we fill it.

It is still a full 2 months away. I'm sure that the restaurant will be able to take reservations a week in advance. By then, we'll know if we have enough for dinner or the three of us meet in a parking lot with a couple of pizza pies. I hear ya' Ron, about not needing the food. I've lost 14 lbs and have no intention of gaining it back and that proclamation ain't easy living in restaurant nirvana!

I just exchanged PM's with David.

I may come down to Tucson for the expo and would be willing to meet up for dinner. Elbee might come also.

I'm a picky eater, so a set menu is out for me, but I do like some Chinese and Pizza.
