I still need to get familiar with the focuser, but out of the box it looks pretty good.

Looks pretty good for a start. I have a couple friends using the GSO RC which is the same as the AT RC (same manufacturer) and they love the scope. Takes some really outstanding images. Enjoy!

Thanks! I'm ecstatic about the scope, just need to get comfortable with it. I didn't shoot flats, and it would probably have helped, but what it really needs is more time.

Gary, any balance or focus problems? Do you have your guide scope mounted on top or a side by side? I am about to pull the trigger on this scope and a new vixen sxd.

No balance issues at all. My guidescope is on top, and very precariously at the moment as the vixen adapters are on back order. (Note the Celestron orange vecro straps.) The new focuser has been beefed up a bit, but it (to me) seems a bit touchy. I only used one 2" extension, and they are huge so I don't think vignette will be an issue.

I guess I need to read a bit more on GradientXterminator as I did on pass early on, but then the second try was giving me wierd results...
I think more frames is the only hope for the noise... but thanks.

And the last attempt for a while as I should get busy trying to isolate the issue between my guider and my 350D. I only got 11 frames because a conflict developed and I ended up having to reboot, reinstall, blah, blah... Then I'm overhead, but balance must've been a tad off as tracking got a bit sloppy. So here's another version, this time I used 24 darks with the 11 frames which helped an otherwise underexposed and out of focus image a little. But it's a new scope and it's all I got...
M33 could become an obsession... (I was warned!)

Thanks Sal, It's been months since I've acquired new data, so what skills I have are a bit rusty. (Like knowing when I'm in focus.) Nick, I can't get as deep as your 9.25, but I'm digging this scope. Vote is still out on the focuser, but everything else is great!

Gary congrats again on the first light That last version is really really nice! Only comment is that it is a bit on the smooth side... but still looks great. Not sure if you do this or not, but try to run the noise reduction on the darker parts of the image. You can create a mask with the help of the thresholds adjustment layer ... and for some more pop in details, run some sharpening on the brighter areas (but be careful about sharpening stars) I only would sharpen the tiny stars... but leave the big and medium ones alone.
