I was using CCD Calculator the other day to check a few targets for the AT8RC when I ran across the Foxface Nebula... At the end of my very enlightening session last night I figured I'd burn an hour on this one as an experiment. It really needs a bunch more time, and we all know what the jpg compression does to our masterpieces, but here it is! (I'm going back soon...)

Thanks gents!! I'll be reprocessing this as I think there is more color to be had. This was done this morning on one cup of coffee and four hours sleep.

Thanks Mike, Noise Ninja to the rescue!! I'm thinking when it starts rising a little earlier, I'll devote a night or two as there's a lot of faint dust and detail.

Hey I see the fox's face! That's a new one to me and I've added it to my shortly to do list.
Add another hours data and the difference will be 500%!

I'm not sure how you're looking at it, because I presented it this was as I saw the face looking slightly to the right. After I went to the image I originally saw and compared (fox looking slightly to the left), mine needs to be rotated CW 90 degrees and more (lots) data added.. I'm thinking I'd like to have 3 to 4 hours data on this one.
Here is R. Jay Gabany's image from Ron Wodaski's CCD Calculator.

Many thanks Javier! It's a blast being able to image again after a 4 month respite. Even more fun to have a new scope at the same time...

Hi Gary,
This is a cool shot. It is a very beautiful nebula that I didn't know.

Sergi,
Thanks!! It seems to be a fairly unknown, or at least unphotographed nebula. I stumbled on it completely by accident...

Cool shot. Second one has a tad more color so the dark stuff stands out more.

Hi Gary, very nice image on an unusual target. Where you shooting at full focal length of your scope or with a focal reducer?

Tom, Thanks.. actually the second one I just took my time! The first shot was the 'morning after' and only four hours sleep. Plus I was a bit anxious to get results, so anxious the orientation was 90 degrees off!!
Nicola, Great to hear from you! This is full focal length of the AT8RC, 1625mm f/8. I have a TV x.8 FR (TRF2008) that I want to try sometime, but I'm still getting comfortable with the scope and checking collimation and such.

Great image, Gary.
Never heard of the Foxface Nebula before, but I love the quirkly name so it's going on my to-do list for this winter!
Thanks for posting.
