Hi,
Central Cygnus is a beautiful area of the sky mixed with dark and bright nebulosity.
Here is an image that I shot of this area last night... click on the link below to see a higher resolution image...
http://www.astropix.com/HTML/SHOW_DIG/Cygnus2.HTM
This photo was made with a 50mm lens working at f/2.8 with an LPS filter. It is a composite of 51 x 2 minutes at ISO 1600 for a total of 102 minutes of total exposure shot with a Canon 20Da.

Nice widefield. It would be nice to see a super-widefield mosaic of this area with the areas farther north.

Hi Jerry,
the depth of your shot is impressive! But in my opinion there is a lot more potential in it. Less smoothing probably let it look more natural. And by changing hue of the reds you could show the nebulas more reddish instead of purple.
Just my 2 cents!

Fantastic image! Would it be possible to do this with a non-modded DSLR (ie Nikon D40)? Or will it block too much of the upper bands of red of the nebulas?

Hi Ralf,
Thanks for the feedback...
You know, emission nebulas are not supposed to be just red, they do have blue in them from hydrogen beta emissions, and when you add a little bit of blue to red, you get magenta.

Hi Jerry, magenta seems to be right, but here in your shot it looks purple...

Awesome shot, Jerry. I had not seen before all those famous targets all in one view. Oh, and I'm enjoying reading your AP books, by the way!
