LOL... I had the ball of a time reading your replies, thank you guys!

BillP, could you do another 6mm planetary ep. review and include both the ZM6 and 6mm ball-lens ep?

Any other Zeiss Mono pix out there?

There is a question as to whether a singlet lens could better a ZM of equal focal length in a head to head comparo.
There is some merit to this.
We have had many reports on this forum of singlets besting TMB SM's and ZAO's.
And, in theory, a suitably polished homogeneous substrate should equal or better a fused triplet, regardless of care in construction.
The sweet spot for each would be rather similar.
This has at least one significant implication: ZM performance at 1/10th the cost, in a package that is readily available to all.
Singlets are an accessible do it yourself project, or available through others, such as S. Couture and H. Siebert.

Bought this mint 6mm from someone in China. I was so pleased I asked him if he had others. He said no but he did have a 5mm Nikon Ortho. Bought both with considerable savings from what I would have paid in the States. No, they are not clones:-).

Holy Smokes! Could be a record for a .965/1.25" eyepiece?? Even higher than the 32mm Zeiss ZAOs usually demand.
I think there is another one up for bidding on German E-Bay.

I think this is probably the norm. Last year or so when I borrowed a 10 Z Mono I recall we insured it for $1500 with the posting. If you want one, you need to pay this amount.

Wait a moment. I hope the one that paid 1000 for that Zeiss glass is paying for an historic, vintage product that is not longer made, and NOT for a glass that has reached a degree of "GOD of High Resolution".

I hope he paid more for the vintage thing than for the HR issue, becouse you can get similar performance for 1/10 of that price IF you know what to look for.

S'PR (Samuel's Pending Report) will show you how. Did I say that before?

Haha!

I hesitated when I was offered a 6mm for $400 just a couple of years ago. I'm now glad I took the plunge.

The auction went from 10 to 300 in just a moment. It's like saying... "who cares"?

Hi Bill,

I've been camping the laat 3+ weeks - another "Griswald Vacation" experience.........another 3 weeks to go.

I've got my Zeiss Monocentrics, Supermonos, ZAO's, and Couture Balls with me.................but I haven't received my TEC110 at any of my locations..........so no travel scope - no evaluations. Supposed to have had it last week.

I installed the 6mm & 10mm Zeiss monocentrics lenses in a 1.25" EP exactly like i did with the Couture Balls - sacrilege for sure with the purists. I'll take a picture tomorrow before I head out for MS or LA.

Hi John,

I guess this is what you are looking for.

This is the eyepiece case of my 1950 Zeiss AS-80/1200, which came from the laboratory of an East Germany famous rocket scientist...

Believe it or not, there is another (late model) Mono-10 available on German Ebay! Four days left on the sale, and the price is already over $1000.

Get it while it is still *ahem* cheap!!

Hi Levine,

Thanks for starting this thread. I really enjoy seeing the pictures. Now if I can only change that H to a M on my Carl Zeiss Jena eyepiece.

George

Not that I'm planning to do this, but is it possible for non-Germans to get into the bidding?

As long as you are a registered individual on Ebay, simply log on to German (or other) eBay, confirm that the seller is willing to ship to USA (most are), and start bidding.
You can monitor your progress, and link to the German site, from the US version.
