Tend to agree, to each his own...all hobbies/endeavours have "collectors items" or "antiques", and the more LNIB an item is, the more its worth. And I'm as guilty as the next person. All of my eyepieces (except the 13mmT1) have the original boxes (wife really doesn't understand my insistence on keeping the boxes). If I hadn't run into this LNIB stuff before, I'd probably have thrown them all out. Also kept the original boxes from the refractor, put them in the garage rafters in case I ever need them (didn't keep the Dob Boxes and probably should have. But yea, you're right, to collectors the more perfect to new it is, the better.

On the other hand, perhaps folks dissing the box buyer are *not* folks from whom to buy used eyepieces. I mean, if you can't even manage to keep the original packaging together with the item, how well taken care of are the eyepieces likely to be?

Last year I bought a used 31mm Nagler that did not have the box, but the eyepiece arrived in almost brand new condition. But, like you, I don't understand the lack of a box. Why on earth would you get rid of a perfectly good eyepiece box?

Doug, I seriously have a 31mm Nagler box if you want it. A 22mm Panoptic came in it. Lemme know. I'll send it your way gratis.
I got no use for it.

Agree. I kept all boxes of my EP including the solid ES 100° and 30mm 82° boxes. When I will sell those ep, and it will happen one day, it will be handy to have those boxes to ship them safely.

I keep boxes for EVERYTHING from stores and Astro gear. I also don't get it how someone can "lose an eyepiece box"...heck, I don't ever lose eyepiece caps let alone the boxes.

The box for my finder desintegrated long ago and the 2" visual back wrapped in the blue bubble-wrap was just shipped in a cardboard box but everything else stays in the original box. Other ep case is the same

I keep almost all boxes. I've still got the original boxes my Sansui speakers shipped in from the 'B3 annex exchange' Subic Bay Phillipines in about 1972. When I move (about 6 times so far) the speakers go back in. Over the years I've disposed of many 'used up' appliances/electronics in their original boxes. Yes, I have all my eyepiece boxes.

I'm pretty much the same. I have two large cardboard moving boxes in the garage that are full of empty eyepiece boxes, just in case I sell anything. In fact, the only eyepieces I don't have boxes for are those that I bought used that came without the boxes.

I think the interesting thing about RGO box going for $45 is, with a bit of patience, one could find the actual eyepiece with box for maybe $20-$30 more. So the box is worth more than the eyepiece.

Perhaps true… but our man has made ebay history. That's not just any RG 20mm WA box now.
If I were in his lucky shoes, I'd have something worthy to put in my sig.

Until recently, I kept most of my ep's in bolt cases inside and the respective boxes separate in an outside shed. I just bought a couple of new TV eps/boxes and thought I should just put everything back in their boxes before the mice got to 'em or lost in the clutter. And to my delight, everything I use for a nights viewing fits perfectly with a little room to spare, even when in their boxes. The other ep's and accesories that were in the case (as pictured), I just never used and the case became too cluttered and store those separate now (I also didn't want those cheapie ep's near my TV's. Just not right ). Anyway, I'm glad for the person who won that box. If I had the money, I could see myself bidding high on something like that if I wanted it....... How many times did I just type the word 'box(es)' ?!

Hey I just received delivery of a nice vintage Meade eyepiece box I won on EBay for $45. One side has the outer blue layer ripped off, but it has the original OR6 Made In Japan sticker and the original price sticker ($27.95!) As an added bonus it came with a 6mm Ortho eyepiece. If I take good care of it, that box will last me for many years to come.
