ES eyepieces

I have been trying to round out my eps both for my 4 inch refractor and 16 inch f/4.5 reflector.
My original plan was to purchase a used 12mm nagler, I did post a wanted add in the s and s ep forum, but doubt Ill find one for my pricee constraint of 200 dollars, so........got to looking at th ES 11mm 82* and 6.7mm 82* eps, both fit within my 200 dollar budget, minus shipping, and would fill two holes medium, and high power.

So has anyone else have any experience with these two eps??
It says theyre both temporarily out of stock, do I just go ahead and order and wait? not sure how long itll take to get them in stock?

That ES 82 11mm is probablly the best in the 1.25" ES 82 lineup. The 6.7 is a good EP, but I don't get to use it as much as I'd like due to the weather. The 8.8 is also a good eyepiece. Its the high power workhorse in my dob. At the dark site, I'm able to use the 6.7 more, and it has given me fantastic views of Venus and Saturn (last Spring, which is coming round again!). Best $99 I ever spent was the 11mm.

I'll second that for the 11mm ES82. I use mine frequently and have been very happy with it. I have a 6.7mm on order but I've already been waiting for 2 months...

+1 on the 82* 11mm. It is a wonderful eyepiece.

Only down side is the availbility. It along w/ the 68* 24mm seem to be nearly impossible to get.

Ditto what others have said about the ES eyepieces.

Also remember there are two types of 12mm Naglers. The current Type4 and the older Type 2 from the 1990s.

I've have both, and I've been very happy with them. They are very sharp and work very well on both deep sky objects and the planets. On the moon you can see some lateral color towards the edge of the FOV, but in general they have very high contrast and do not have a problem with scattered light. I use both of them very frequently in my 10 and 15-inch Dobs, which are F/4.5's. They handle faster telescopes well, and they also are great for small telescopes too. The build quality is excellent. They aren't quite a Nagler, but they come close for a lot less money. You'll be happy with them.

11 ES 82 N2
12 T2 nagler
12 T4 nagler

Best edge correction goes like this
12T2
12T4
11ES

In a faster scope i liked the 11T1 nagler the best!

I have the 6.7mm ES82 and am extremely happy with it. It provides nice sharp views with excellent contrast and I have found it to be surprisingly outstanding for lunar observations.

When I had the ES82 11mm I used it barlowed (218x) for lunar observations with great results. Lateral color did not bother me. The 11mm along with the 2.5x PowerMate (273x) was great for resolving globular clusters.

I had the ES 11 82 and the Nagler 12 Type 2 at the same time. For me, the Nagler has better edge correction and the edge is easier to see. I found it more difficult to position my eye and/or turn my head to see the field stop in the ES 11, kind of defeating the point of the 82 degree field. I found the ES and Nagler to be similarly sharp on axis. The moon's limb showed more lateral color (wider band) near the field edge in the ES than the Nagler. That really wasn't much of a problem as I prefer my critical viewing to remain on axis.

I wonder if the issue with seeing the edge with the 11mm ES has to do with how far recessed the lense is? If the eyelense was closer to the top surface it might give more ability to take in the field to the edge.

and if you think you'll have a hard time finding an ES82 11mm; just wait till you try to find an 11T1 Nagler.....

I consider myself lucky to have found very nice 12mm Nagler type2 in my price range, Ive never owned one , did look through a nagler once though, many eyars ago, almost fell off the ladder, lol

I'll +1 the ES 82 degree 11mm. I have the 4.7 and 6.7mm on order so I can't comment on those. The 11mm is fantastic, especially for $100.

I agree with others that the TV is going to give you better sharpness overall, but if you are on a budget and you have an immediate hole you'd like to fill with your EPs, then go with the ES. You can always upgrade another day when your budget is higher.

I could talk my wife into $100 here and there. I can't talk her into $350 here and there. So, 85% the view quality for 30% of the price is a good compromise IMO.

Very good results here with the ES 6.7. I sold the 14mm, 11mm, 8,8mm ES eyepieces, only because I wanted to try the Pentax XL series 14mm and 10.5mm, and you know how much those cost on the used market

I have no plans to get rid of the 6.7. It is fantastic on globular clusters. A friend of mine was looking through my scope one night, and while scanning around with a 24mm 5000 SWA, found a somewhat faint globular. Can't remember the NGC number. At that mag stars did not resolve well. It looked more like an elliptical galaxy. I popped in the 6.7, and he said, Cooooooooollll

I've had the 82° 4.7mm, 6.7mm and 8.8mm on order from Astronomics since early November. (No bashing Astronomics intended here; they have to get through their backorder log just like every other vendor).

But I thought I'd try an experiment.

I think I might get on the wait list for an Astro-Physics scope and see which comes first, the telescope or the ES eyepieces.

Any predictions?

an ES 6.7 and 11mm 82 degree both just came up on astromart at list price. At this point I didn't even care, I just want the darn thing. I managed to jump on the 6.7.

Guess now that my 82 degree collection is complete I'll start working on the 100 degrees.

Just need to win the lotto first.

Glad to hear that I am not the only one waiting for the ES eyepieces... It has been almost four months for me.

I just did the online chat thing with someone at the ES website, here is what I was told:

We are starting to receive some our shipment from our factory. We do apologize for the wait. We are hoping to begin restocking every one with in about 30 days. We have been getting some of our product and once we recieve it, it wil pass through our Quality Control department and we will start shipping them out to our vendors

Guess I will check again in a month! :/

none, yet, lol......of course not much special to ask for ..a motley lot of scopes and used eps.
Honestly , minus the knight Owl eps Ive never bought anything new, least wise none I still have, there was a plossl, but I let it go with a donation scope project.
