Ok, from what Barry said, scratch the Edmunds from my post above but still, Lyra and UO start with 12.5/18 and 6/12.5 respectively, I wonder why that is.

I am sure from demand and what each individual reseller is able to acquire at any given point. I am signed up at Agena to be notified when the Hutechs come into stock. So far I have missed purchasing 12.5mm, 25mm and at one point, 9mm, by mere hours before they were sold out again. Quick reaction to the notification email has gotten me a pair of 9mm but I am still waiting weeks later for a chance to purchase the 12.5mm.

These look to be the same as the new flat-tops that Edmunds is selling, minus the green silk-screening which they're charging an extra $15 for .

That might be all there is to it I guess. I'm hoping that they'll be available without shortages soon so I can fill out my BGO series with a 4mm and 25mm (flat top).

Not at home to take a look, but it appears to me from the picture that the new HD 12mm has a longer black top to it then the original 12mm HD. Is this HD a little taller then the original??? (Like I said, not at home to check, so I could be wrong, it does appear longer in the picture.)

I don't see any flat top orthos on the Edmund Optics site, only volcano tops...

Go to the recent thread I linked earlier. Edmund is shipping orthos that appear identical to the Hutechs despite having the older volcano tops picture on their website.

There seem to be two body format options to these eyepieces - the long format which match the Baader GO's and the shorter format which the Fujiyama's, sold by Lyra Optics in the UK, use.

The Astro Hutech's are the longer format except for the 6mm and 18mm which are "shorties".

The significance is the positioning of the field stop / focal plane which seems to be around 8mm further out with the shorter body format types.

The above is based on testing I've been doing with Baader GO's and a set of the Astro Hutech orthos.

Mixing the body formats as Astro Hutech have done messes up the par focality of their ortho range, which is slightly annoying.

Uh, they're back.
It stood to reason that an item with a fair amount of demand would be produced again. This is the type of eyepiece that never seems to disappear, whether from Edmund, Hutech, Baader, Teleskop Service, Zeiss, or University Optics.
We go through periods of scarcity, but they always come back.
Prices are reasonable, and performance is decent.

I would rate the performance of my 9mm Astro Hutech ortho much better than decent being equal to my XWs and other top tier image wise. Highly recommended! David

Would like to try the Fujiyama's as the 8mm out focus would make them parfocal with TV Plossl, etc. & Brandon's.

How are these in a fast scope, such as an F/5 ? Right now I'm using Astrotech Paradigms and might be interested in picking up a couple of these to use in both this and my classic reflectors.

Thanks

Actually what Edmunds is selling is the new flat top type with multi-coatings. Edmunds just hasn't updated the picture, or description yet.
