I use all my Planetary eyepieces but I have had specific offers (via email or PM) for one of them........18mm Pentax Or.

None are currently for sale, but with Markus expanding the TMB SMC line to include the 18mm (and 21mm) I could see me swapping it out one day to keep my set consistent.

None! If I don't use it I don't keep it.

After I have owned them for a while, no one wants my eyepieces regardless of how otherwise desirable they might be.

This one is kinda hard to find....

I'm pretty sure I may never find another one with the 1.25" adapter and original box.

I've had eyepieces that people want and are hard to get: 30mm Silvertop, 28mm Meade RG Ortho, 16.8mm RG Ortho, 50mm Silvertop, I ended up selling them to fund other purchases with more regret at the time of sale than I have now. I can't really be a collector financially, so a collectible eyepiece only stays in the stall if it is useful to my observing needs.

Hmm, I don't have many discontinued EPs which are worth much but to my surprise, 2 may qualify:

18mm Meade 5K UWA: widest TFOV well-corrected 82° EP available in 1.25" format
24mm Meade 5K SWA: widest TFOV well-corrected 68° EP available in 1.25 format with enough ER for glasses use

The 24mm will never leave the stable thanks to my astigmatism. It took me years to find an EP with it's particular mix of strengths and now that it's not available any more, I'm lucky to have it.

The 18mm may leave the stable thanks to my astigmatism. Simply put, I don't like it because of my eyes. However there are other people in the immediate family with good eyes who may well get great use from it so I'm keeping it around for now, especially as it's also no longer available. I don't need the funds, so it stays.

I do however have some good EPs which get no use now which need to go, a 4.8mm NT1 for example. I have a 5mm NT6 now so the 4.8 is quite redundant.

This one was pretty darn good even @ F/6. I may pick another one up some day for nostalgic reasons......and try it in my fast reflector for kicks.

Not everybody would want this, but I posted it because I had a nice time with it in an 8" F/6 reflector. Notice the "koning" spelling error stamped on the barrel, lol.

I traded an eyepiece for it with "Glassthrower" here on CN....Super nice guy!

I always thought it was like a 2" eyepiece at the top, with a 1.25" barrel. Pretty nice eyepiece!

This 32mm UO Konig is good in fast scopes because the 1.25 inch barrel limits the afov to about 50 degrees. It's just as nice as a premium 32mm Plossl.

>>>....and once you sell 'em you'll never get 'em back again.

at this point, this applies to almost my entire eyepiece collection. 2" Pentax XW's, Clave Plossls, AP SPL's, Olympus GSWH and german-made Zeiss micro eyepieces, and the 16.7mm Zeiss Diascope ep.

so the only ep's I have still in production are a couple of Tak LE's and my new Zeiss Diascope 12.8mm eyepiece.

If I know I'm not going to use an EP I'll sell it so someone else can use it, but it's still difficult when you know you'll never see one for sale again. Still, if you're just storing it, you might as well move it on to someone else. (even the Zeiss 16.7mm,although I'd think twice about it, it was outstanding in my AP160 the other night, several friends were impressed as well).

btw, at f/8 I preferred the 30mm XW to the Leitz 30mm and it wasn't close in my eyes, the Leitz had weird Tele Vue-like distortions and the star images did not seem as tight and clean as the XW's, it could have just been my sample but I doubt it. Would not be surprised to see the big XW"s trading at $1000+ in the near future.

I can think of many others from the past that I'd like to see available, UO Konigs, Jaegers eyepieces, Vixen/Celestron Plossls, and more.

Considering the number of Want Ads I see, you might be right. I still don't think I'll let mine go -- I don't just 'keep them because everyone else wants them', I keep them because I like them and still use them.

Cheers,

Ron

absolutely, they are wonderful to use. and if i replaced the 30 and 40 with a 31t5, what would i do when a set up my dob wth my refractor: the 30 goes in the dob and the 40 in my refractor!! very nice under dark skies, although my 22t4 gives some tough competition with my pentax 30xw in the dob

My TMB 40mm Paragon, Serial #000056, though I'm not sure that this one falls under the "everyone wants 'em" category.

UO Orthos, special run with OPS planetary coatings, in 12.5 and 18.

They never quite manage to get the AP SPL 12's or Pentax Or 18's out of the binoviewer, but I expect they'd be near-impossible to replace.

UO Konigs in 8, 12, 16.

They can't hold a candle to later UWA's (Meade S4000 8.8, 12T4 and 17T4), but they look too cool to sell.

Wish I had held on to my RKEs, just for nostalgia.

Cheers,
Jeff.
