Just got my 24 x 8.5" print yesterday, and took a quick flash photo this morning. I used keys, knife, etc., for scale. I figured I'd post it so that James will have something to trump with his 72" print :-)

That looks nice Greg!

The 72" is on its way and will adorn the ceiling of the Milky Way / Ocean room of The Naturalist Notebook in a few weeks.

Nice! What type of paper is it printed on? And what print service?

Dave

Dave, James can probably give specifics, but they give a light description of the paper at the bottom of the order page linked in my earlier post...., Greg

Thanks guys. The print is on semi-gloss Epson Professional paper and I built the wooden frame with a foam core surface special for this print. It is now secured in place at its intended destination. More on that later.....

Jim, how did you affix the print to the foam core board? I'm just getting back into mounting prints and I am going to use double sided archive tape to mount 8x10 prints in 11x14 mats, but I don't know yet what to do for my 24" Great Rift print.

Hi Greg, I use Elmer's Craft Bond. I recommend using the permanent bond method with this product. I used the temporary bond method and it lifted over time. The permanent bond method requires a quick adhesion. I was sweating a lot while my wife and I applied the glue and rolled and smoothed the print onto the mat.

You may try other products, this one is just easily accessible and affordable for me.

Cheers,

Jim

Thank you Jim, that is what I needed to know! At first I thought you said that you were "swearing a lot", and the first thing that came to mind is that "I am a master of making things work using that technique" :-)

Greg

The mosaic has received many visitors including a special visit yesterday. From what I hear, Alex liked the photo.

Artist and photographer Pamelia Markwood poses with UC Berkeley astronomer Alex Filippenko under my Milky Way mosaic at The Naturalist's Notebook in Seal Harbor, Maine.

Looks to me that it is "Smaller than life size".
But still great work.

Probably could not find the billion mile or so area to fit the full sized photo into...

Great work Jim, it looks amazing...
