This is just another SCT cooling project that I started.
I got this 'old' C-14" in the mail, and since it needed a lot of LTC, I just started to dismantle the whole unit, and decided to do the whole 9 yards.
I also installed handles on the back, since the SCT didn't had any, and spay painted the back and frond part.
The SCT has a locked mirror inside with a collar, first I wanted to undo this 'locking' situation, but since it's missing parts, I will assemble it the way it was before and buy a Moonlite focuser instead.
The unit has 3 fans on the inside and 2 - 3" fans on the outside, the bolts are already installed waiting for the coolers and heat sinks to arrive.
Since Hawaii does not cary telescope parts, I'm waiting on:
- Low light Proto star flocking material
- Peltier coolers
- Heat sinks
- Focuser
- Rail and rings for guide scope
- view finder (type losmandy rings - quick release),
If you have any suggestions please do let me know.
LAGER IMAGES CAN BE FOUND ON THE HAWAIIAN ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY - YAHOO GROUP (HAS) In my photo album FREWI80 - C 14' Cooling and remodeling.
http://tech.ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/HawaiianAstronomicalSociety/photos/browse/d4e6
Over 150 + images are made so far and this will be updates in the next few days when the other parts arrive.
This project will take a few weeks more due to parts and work.

As you can see this is not a regular C 14, but one with the mirror locked so there should be no image shift.
For now the project has stopped .
Waiting on the Flocking material so I can close the tube. Also collimation screws are on my list but they have to be custom made.
I hope I get a word soon about the Peltier coolers and Heat sinks.
Focuser will be a moonlite focuser.
I thank Paul Haeze for providing most of the information and Jim for the support and many other who dare to try this cooling remodeling before.
Peltiers are from : http://customthermoelectric.com/index.htm
Pro Star Flocking from: http://www.fpi-protostar.com/flock.htm
Digital Thermometer from : http://search.dse.com.au/search?sessionid=488647cb002a661a2741c0a87f9c06d7&w=thermometer
Since the SCT is still open all advice is welcome.

Still a lot of Fans and Heat sinks left over for a Cooling system for my DSLR Canon 1OD
I ordered an extra Peltier cooler, that might come in handy...

I like the way you have setup the heat sinks, much neater than what I originally did. Glad to see more people taking on this idea.

Paul and others,
I still have a Meade 14" fork model on my roof / concrete pier. If this Celestron C14" project works out fine I would love to remoddel that one to (meade 14' LX 200), but I hate to take it out of the forks.
I think 'Lester' or somebody remoddeled his Meade 14" and took it out of the forks, are there images of this project.
Would love to get in touch with some one who tried this before.
Just want to know If lester applied the Peltier Coolers and did he has any result ?
There seems to be not many space behind the Meade 14' Mirror !
I was planning to image Jupiter last night and the scope didn't cool down !!! So there is really a need for a cooling system.

Is it also wise doing the Flocking in one time ?
I mean not applying strips but glue the roll on in one time ?
I will aply extra glue.

Good work, Freddy! Keep the pictures coming. I happened to think that a couple of in-line fuses for the DC wires connecting the power supply might not be a bad idea. Maybe not necessary since the power supply itself is probably fused.
Keep us posted.
