Jupiter in good seeing, 11/10
      #5513184 - 11/10/12 01:14 PM Attachment (108 downloads)

It was a very nice morning. The seeing wasn't perfect and it would fuzz out for a few minutes at a time, but most of the time it was very nice. Also, it wasn't very damp - NO DEW! Remarkable for North Carolina.

I have more data to get through and a load of work to do but this longer FL shot went pretty well.

It is an RGB with the trick that the R is a Baader Red Longpass, >610nm. The G and B are Astronomik filters. I was able to keep the gain and exposure down with the greater light grasp of the long pass Red. 60s per G and R (at 71 and 85 fps, respectively) and 80s in blue at 64 fps. Combined in WinJupos, sharpened in Registax 6.

Comments/critiques welcome. I still don't like the edge of the disk which I take to be an issue with WinJupos - perhaps I'm not getting good enough image measurement?

Also, that was resized 125%. Here is a link to the image on astrobin where there are a few more technical details.

Hi Paul,

Superb image, I feel like I'm looking out the window of a spaceship as it approaches Jupiter! Was this the 15" and what FL?

Cheers, Dan

Gorgeous image Paul! I had that bright edge on the limb you need to reduce the LD value from 1.00 to about .50 and it wont show.

Superb Paul.
I was out last nigh too. Alas, my collimation is still giving me trouble and my images look like they were shot with cotton over the scope. I'm dedicating tonight to working on the collimation. If that fails, I may have a "collimation party"... I've almost come to the realization that it might be a two person job on this scope. If so, I'll provide the beer and pizza... anyone wanting to help with the scope will be welcome!
Once again... excellent work.
Cheers

Thanks, all. It's great when it works.

Dan, yes, it's the 15" with a 5x Powermate which gave an effective focal length of 10,200mm. I usually image at 8200mm.

Tim, that sounds fun. I always found collimating my C8 to be a pain. Two people would help a lot.

Space Cowboy, do you mean the LD setting in WinJupos?

Paul it looks like you've mastered the color processing technique, it wasn't all that long ago I remember you doing black and white IR pass filter images. The wake trailing off the GRS carries a wealth of detail and the rest of the image is drop dead gorgeous.

Pete

I love seeing everyone's images and living vicariously through you. It's so frustrating to not have the same seeing you guys have.

Congrats!

Yes the LD value is on the 2nd tab (Adj) of image measurement in winjupos.

Going to play with that LD setting, Cowboy. Generally, when I see a setting I don't understand and it is 1, I leave it be.

A few more from the session. This is the Red Longpass image from the above.

One last one: RGB at 0730 UT.

Cowboy, the LD setting sure helps. Thanks!
