I was lucky enough to get another good night with the GRS in view. The seeing wasn't quite as nice as it was last week but it was still great. I still delt with dew inside the ota again...but this time I just heated most of it off with the dryer before I started, and then waited about 15 minutes for the corrector to cool back down. There was a little bit of jet stream that caused some hi res. shaking from time to time but there was still plenty of detail in every channel.
This composite was taken with the C14 and flea3 at 7:28UT on 11-29-12. Thanks for looking!

And here is a closeup of Io compared to the NASA JPL simulation on the left. This is a blend of green and red light.

Another beautiful shot, Brad. How do you get so much detail on the moons? Mine still look pretty much just like diffraction patterns, even in excellent seeing and with lots of frames. While there's a little detail around the limbs, the center always tends to be nothing but a big dark dot.

The complexity of the GRS wake is well accounted for in your image Brad; and what convincing surface detail on Io! It's very close to the JPL simulation.

Thanks for all the comments guys! Work has been really busy but I finally got around to processing one more from this batch. This one was taken at 5:54UT before the GRS had rotated into view. I think the seeing was about the same. Hope that jet-stream will get out soon while Jupiter is still big!

Kevin: For the moons I have been experimenting with the processing recently. I've found that using a very small amount of frames and then not sharpening too much as been the best result. For this one of Io and my recent Ganymede, I used only 250 frames out of 12,000 per color. Then I drizzled 1.5x in AS2! and used a little bit of wavelets in Registax. No deconv. at all was used. Hope that helps!

Brad, absolutely stunning images! Detail and color are processed perfectly. What f-ratio/focal length are you using? Also, what is the gain setting on the B channel? Lately I have been pushing higher going from f25 to f27 but getting noiser images having to increase the gain up to achieve 65% brightness and it seems to be in the wrong direction. I am thinking of going lower next time. From the super image quality it looks like you have the optimal setup. Thanks in advance for the advice and for posting these beauties. These should go straight to S&T!
Regards, Steve
