Well, I just pulled the trigger and bought a QHY5L II Mono from Astrofactors; first time purchasing from them.
Shipping to Canada was only $12 ~ pretty good compared to OPT which is about $34.

Great topic, in a most famous astronomy forum in Brazil we exactly discuss about it, please check it out: http://www.cosmobrain.com.br/cosmoforum/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=17777 The language is in portuguese, maybe a google translation works well if you do not understand.
QHY5L-II now working full on FireCapture. The developers announce the follow steps:
"Hi all, This is the very very last ;-) 2.2beta version including QHY 5L-II support.
If you have an existing 2.2beta do the following: - replace FireCapture.jar in your \lib subfolder with this version: FireCapture.jar (http://firecapture.wonderplanets.de/FireCapture.jar) - extract the files from the following archive into your 2.2beta folder: QHYCCD_Support_beta40.zip (http://firecapture.wonderplanets.de/QHYCCD_Support_beta40.zip)
If you don't have a 2.2beta use the following self-extracting archive: FireCapture_22beta40.exe (http://firecapture.wonderplanets.de/FireCapture_22beta40.exe)
Start FC using the "FireCapture_QHY" shortcut. For the unlikely case that your QHY 5L should start see the additional controls in the gamma drop-down box (right-click). Check "HighSpeed" for fast read out.
In case of errors send log.txt and all files in the \log folder.
Non QHY users don' t need to upgrade. The only changes beside QHY support are as follows: - fixed fliped image for ASI camera - improved histrogram display for color cameras"

Hi T - I take it from this in your post that the QHY5L-11 doesn't have adjustable blackpoint/brightness control then..?

The QHY5L-ll has grabbed my attention as I was considering the ASI 120MM. What concerns me about the ASI is the image scale being too large for use with my trusty 5x powermate in my f4.8 Dob. I understand the QHY5L-ll has a 1.25" body which fits directly inside the focuser therefore producing a smaller image scale. After a quick google search I saw someone mention it producing 4.5-5x with a 5x powermate which sounds ideal for me?

Could someone post the fps as a function of the ROI available on the QHY5L-II under Firecapture?
Can we compare such fps with those available on the ASI?
Thanks

With the QHY5L-II I today achieved the following fps values (EzPlanetary 3.44):
1280x960 30fps 640x480 107fps 320x240 157fps
May not be optimum yet, since I am still trying to figure out how to work best which acquistion parameters are best.

I'm also testing this cam and I have to say that in a first approach seems to promise very well, but I must say that the speed reported by Laura, are speed cam 8-bit. if the cam is used in 12-bit, the speed is halved, but still remain very good speed in relation to the most dynamic acquisition. Soon I'll post the first pictures.

I've just received the QHY5L-ll mono and at the moment can only get 55fps @ 640x480 both on my quad core pc and 2 gig ram netbook which is rather a puzzle?
Also firecapture can't find the cam on my netbook but it works fine with the pc?
