Something that made me real down today is that the planets in the Northern Hemisphere will be pretty low in the next 8 years !!! The Australian imagers well be very good positioned having all the planets really high in the sky... are you guys in the Northern Hemisphere going to travel south to get a better picture ? What is your thought on this now we all have our new planetary camera ???

.. there is no beer like belgian beer. It's nice to live in Brussels
I think I'll try to hunt down the planets when I get a chance. I would make it a somewhat longer trip (4 weeks or so), and then just focus on planetary imaging.

I red somewhere that necessity is the mother of invention and advancement... I suppose we have a few years of experimentation ahead of us then!
Oh, and as others have said, i'm all for a good beer too

Hi Freddy, it is true that the planets are going to be really well positioned down under in the not to distant future, but you should take heart in the stunning work of Damian Peach who continually produced top quality work at low alt.
You could always come and have a holiday in OZ.
Cheers Trevor

Beer always gives me wobbly seeing but great looking images for some reason.....
Saturn will be so low in the UK over the next 10 years I shall have to give the lawn a closer cut! Seriously considering a DSLR.

You guys think you have it bad for altitude - the streetlight that, um, mysteriously failed a few years ago was repaired yesterday while I was at work. It sits pretty much in the middle of the ecliptic around the celestial equator.
I sure hope some other mysterious tragedy befalls that light soon.

Hey, doesn't everything look better with beer?
I'm pretty sure we will see Saturn pole vortex with a lot of details using that filter !

International mystery! I would swear the same thing happens here!

You realize, of course, that suggestions of illegal acts are a violation of the TOS. Please move away from this line of thought.
Thanks.

I've done nothing illegal - I see how you could read it that way. The light seriously went out two years ago and wasn't fixed.

Well, it was a mystery. I am lucky that my neighbors know of my hobby, even if they think it odd, and refrained from calling the city. The guy next to me is selling his house and his realtor was out the other night and I suspect he called.
Argh.

But, but… You're at 21° N! Some of us are waaaaay further up north!
So, check list for the next 8 years:
- Enjoy Jupiter while it's still high in the sky - Get the best optics & improve telescope's thermal behaviour. - Find the best observing locations and study the relationship between seeing and weather (measuring the seeing with DIMM at several sites now). - Get a bigger scope for Uranus!
Clear skies! Jure
