Of interest in my 742nm IR data, is what I believe to be, the vortex within the Hexagon at the North pole. It is in all three of my IR data sets. Each IR image is made from two consecutive 3 min IR captures derotated and combined in WinJUPOS, the 1 min between them means each IR image here is captured over a 7 min period. There is just over 1 hour between the mid point of my 1st & 3rd IR images and while the vortex is most prominent in the 1st image, it is also visible in the other two as well. Also of interest in both my RGB & 742nm IR data is a quite prominent dark spot. I measure its position to be at L3 333.2 Lat +46.9. There are also some diffuse bright spots in the NEB, the dark spot comes up very well in my animations of both IR & RGB data. Interestingly the dark spot, which is also visible in my IR & RGB polar projection maps, lines up very nicely with one the the hexagons vertices in the 1st IR polar map at approx 333 Sys III. The rotation of the spot in Sys II makes for a nice comparison with the hexagons Sys III rotation when considering a comparison with these movements over the approx 80 minutes covered by this data. I wonder if it could actually be a left over from a missed strike? (although I don't know how it would be missed as many eyes as there are on Saturn ATM.) It will be interesting to see how image details develope as Saturn nears opposition. The IR nicely show the vortex and the hexagon shape is pretty well defined. The spot is also well defined and shows really nicly in the animations. Another beautiful set of good data. Have a look at the first IR image, there is a tiny but quite bright spot close to the CM but far South, on the edge of the polar region. It is easily seen in the IR animation, have measured it to be at L3 318.9 Lat +67.4, it can be seen in the IR maps when you know where to look and is well seen in the IR map animation. In all the years I have been imaging Saturn for Cassini RPWS I have not seen a feature like that so close to the polar region. Thanks Stuart, certainly a lot happening in the animations. Thanks Michal, appreciate your comment. Thanks Tim, I believe the dark spot is a long lived feature, reckon I have imaged it previously. There has been conjecture that SED's associated with The Great Storm may have produced some carbon and that it could possibly in relatively significant volume, I guess more analysis with the suite of instruments on Cassini may help determine that. Thanks Pete, toward the end of this imaging session Saturn had exceeded 70 degrees alt which obviously helps considerably. Thanks so much Steve, although I still have not had, what I would call good seeing, I was quite pleased with this result. Thanks Lars, when I was walking down to my observatory the stars all looked quite steady and I had high expectations, the reality when looking at the live feed to my computer screen was a little different, very fast seeing but it still produced an acceptable result. Thanks Frank, large aperture, quality optics, high alt and reasonable seeing means good results. When I do get some good seeing I have very high expectations of the data it will produce. Thanks Freddy, hope your relocation is going well. Thanks Graeme, reckon Saturn is so high now you should get a great look at it even down in Tassie. I can only animate the segment increasing in size with the planet static.
