Thank you very much Pete, Pasquale, George, Michal, Christophe, Paolo, Stuart & Max.....most apreciated!

Stuart, I think the elevation was in the high 30's...but I haven't confirmed this yet.

We captured again this morning and "perhaps" the results might be better..?

With the tilt so pronounced we'll be getting some very good vistas of the NPZ & "Hex" this apparition and in fact the iR742nM above does seem to exhibit a pronounced "dark spot" near where the centre/vortex of the NPZ should be - as I said above it is problematical because any exhuberant sharpening creates an artefact that can give people the impression the vortex is in images, but this stack seemed to show it there before much sharpening at all and I was even milder with the processing below.....only time and better seeing conditions will tell but I'm confident we'll easily pick up the vortex later in the apparition!

Here is that milder processing annotated.

Mo, awesome first Saturn set! Banding looks great not to mention the hex clearly visible, very impressive for this early in the season. I am looking forward to your upcoming Saturns which were unbeatable last year. Thanks for posting and good luck with the seeing

Regards,
Steve

KMan, you're out of the gate for this season with a great start! Cheers to a good Saturn season.

I'll admit I've ignored my favorite forum too long now and have been slowly trying to get back here more and more. In my absence have you guys forgotten about Mars or is it to low in the sky for you in Oz?

Mike

Very nicely done indeed, Darryl It's nice to see Saturn turned out like that, I look forward to catching it with the rings at this inclination...but it will really be a southern hemisphere show again this year. Thanks for the encouraging shots, you and Pat rest up...

Clear Skies,
Brian

Thanks Mike, Mert, Brian & Mark - much appreciated!

Mars is starting to ride fairly high in the morning sky down here in South Oz Mike - maybe getting to around 50 degrees or so at opposition.....we should start targeting him soon and although I followed him down to sub 5" diameters from the last apparition I don't seem to have as much enthusiasm to start imaging it yet!

Maybe the 11000km+ trip for Jupiter recently or the allure of Saturn now, which I think rises to about 70 degrees - but we'll definitely start Mars imaging soon.....I do have another "life" but even I'm trying to remember what it is lately!
