You can rig up a Sky Hook to move it around. Check JATOBSERVATORY website for information to do this. Right now you need to upgrade to a 2" Diagonal and Dew Heaters Most of all...be careful, that's one heavy puppy

If you look at the image, it seems like a 2" diagonal is already in the scope.
And it already has Peterson handles. Goood, these guys are heavy, and those handles make a world of difference. I can assemble and mount my 10" LX200 solo onto a wedge with only minor problems thanks to those guys.

AstroTay: I wish I could use a sky hook! I have to put this away after each nights viewing. Yes is does have the 2" but I might sell it. I have a 2" EverBrite that I'll be using with it. I also have a Moonlight focuser. I think I'm going to add the motors to it & sell the micro focuser. Need to get some dew straps but have lots of controllers. Just ordered the wireless AS 2 how do you like yours?
Robert: Thanks. I've wanted to do an upgrade about a year after getting the LX-50. Just waited to get the right offer.
First light will hopefully be this weekend weather permitting. I'm also busy getting stuff ready to sell...have to make up some on the cost of this little adventure!

GUNER, I also had a LX50 10", it was my grab and go...I could pick it up, tripod, wedge, and scope assembled in one trip for the 30 foot trip to the driveway. I traded up like you did to a 12" LX 200...great views, but dang, that sucker is a load! Now three trips to set up.
I traded even with a guy ( my LX 50 10" for his LX 200 12" ) that he couldn't lug anymore.
I'm very happy with that trade!

Technically, it is now an LX250 (LX200GPS/LX50 clone). It is identical to the setup I have.
Many LX200GPS owners migrate to GEM mounts such as the Losmandy GM-11 and put their forks up for sale. It is a great way for LX50 users to upgrade to full goto capability.
Have fun with your new setup. It runs completely different from an LX50. You have to rely on the AutoStar computer to do a lot of stuff, and it is just not as intelligent as a human being. You will find this out when you put it on a wedge.

Not trying to contradict anyone here. The Autostar II does do a lot of stuff like calc eyepiece for observing, Satellite passes, Min/Max of Algol, eclipses, PEC & Smartdrive training, updates software, focuses, sunset, moonphases & moon features etc etc...too numerous to mention. If you dribble it may even pass you a hankie It's that good. Guner..the AS II wireless is an asset and a convenience. It frees up wire tangle and can be kept in the pocket during winter for warmth. Meade should really provide it for free with the scope purchase. I don't think it would cost more than the wired version taking production into consideration. But it is all about PROFIT. Meade is very good about assistance these days though and very helpful to Meade scope owners. Have no fear with your scope...help and advise is just a click away. Orion is in the correct position and time of year to see IC 434 Early in the morning. Have fun with your scope Thomas. Set it up on wheels, so that you can leave it in your garage covered. It's convenient that way for easy setups and no condensation whatsoever.
Cheers.

Nashville: Man I thought I got a good deal! Was it a straight up trade or did you have to give him some cash?
AstroTay: No garage. I'll have to bring this out & set it up each time I want to use it. It's got me going to the gym again. I think that's a good thing but I'm not sure not.
Matthew: LX250? Could you explain this. I have no idea what you are talking about. And what trouble did you have putting it on a wedge? I thought you change the set up to polar in the hansbox & the scope knows what it's doing? I'll go with the G-11 when I upgrade to the 14" in a few years.

If you are going to setup and takedown every instance, then I suggest you rig up a sky hook....it's cheap and a safe investment for your new "puppy". It's actually dog collars and a camera strap or two Someone reported dropping their LX200 (I think) and it was not a good feeling (for all scope owners i might add).
You will need a Peterson Mount Assistant. Look into it.
Cheers and give a first light report.

Sure...I agree, but I'm sure Thomas won't be setting up on a wedge everytime he brings his scope out. Wedge mounting is really for AstroPhotography....Alt/Az would be for viewing and some camera work (not long exposure). Now....that is one heavy scope, so a Peterson Mount Assistant will be a real help for when he is not doing long exposure photography
Cheers

Actually I will almost always set it up on the wedge. With the skies here I never know when I'll want to pop the camera in & take some photos. My tripod is lowered so it isn't that much harder to put it on the wedge.
