They are still there, I actually talked to them about this a few times.

Distributed by Edwards Brothers back in the day which is the same company as the publisher J.W. Edwards. As a tribute to Mabel Sterns I have to commend her on how show went about this and the information she doccumented.

My observatory is a cross between the old and the new, I want to do some sky surveys in the spirit of the first sky surveys and I could definelt use the information that accorsing to a few of these observatory employees is now only contained in this now rare directory. I think a Kindle version could be very attractive to the original publisher.

That is good to know. I can give them a call and see where things might lead to.

If you need some specific information from the book, let me know what it is and I can e-mail you scans of the pages or post them here-if that is allowed. Just let me know what size dpi you would like for the scans to be in. There is the possibility that the entry the you are interested in may or may not have any images associated with it and may just be text.

Great find Fred, thanks for sharing the contents page, it would be a breach of copyright to post scans of a number of pages here and and as such, against Cloudy Nights Terms Of Service.

What you have posted, hopefully won't cause a fuss, a reproduction of the contents page and a "sample" page would surely count as "fair use for review purposes".

Interesting Ted!
My main interest is also the history of astronomical observatories & telescopes. Moreover I try to visit each major observatory in the world at least once
I have some 1950s and 1960s books with monthly reports of observatories in the USA and South America, these also contain rarely seen photos of the construction works of major observatories ...

An excellent book, which was based on the author's doctoral thesis at Oxford University. A must-have for everyone with a passion for astronomical observatories!

Thanks ... that's almost 4 decades of collecting. I'm still looking for a book or brochure on the Haleakala Obs...
Here're some European observatory books worth mentioning:
The 10,4 m GTC - Gran Telescopio Canarias remains the largest (single mirror) telescope in the world...
